Ford Focus (try and ignore the fact I drive a Ford).
I own an 02 ZX5 and I love her (aside from a few problems I have had). She gets 450 Km to the tank city driving, 600 Km Highway and only costs 55-60.00 to fill up (depending on gas prices). I didnt like the Yaris either, test drove one with my mom and they were really loud. As for the Vibe they dont get as good milage as the Focus I found. Another one I find good on gas is the Civic. My girlfriend drives one and gets around the same milage that I do. So far thats the only car I have found comparable. |

In terms of insurance - 2 doors/sunroof/spoilers are viewed as sports cars = high insurance rates
4 doors are considered family cars so you get kinda a break on them. I failed miserably by having 4 doors and a sun roof, which apperiantly overrides family car status. |

my sister is an estimator and told me to stay the fuck away from fords. I was thinking civic, but i had my heart set on a yaris until i drove one.I was thinking hyundai accent cuz theyre cute and good on fuel. I threw around the idea of a mazda 3 but theyre a bit more expensive and the interest rates arent that great either.
My dads trying to sell me on the aveo and im going to test drive one this weekend. |

I had my heart set on one car which i ended up hating. To get info on cars that arent the usual suspects ie honda or toyota and domestics.Ive read online reviews but getting unbiased opinions from ppl is also rad. |

Honestly I don't see why you'd avoid the major players. They're major players for a reason. Usually cheap knockoffs are just that - cheap. Meaning you're going to spend much much more in maintenance over the next few years than you would've just by shelling out the extra 1k for a quality car in the first place.

so has hyundai. i think toyotas are ugly but fantastic cars. hondas are the most reliable. subaru is a great car but $10k out of your price range. mazda is also a good car but out of your price range. domestics are crap. vw is the best for fuel efficiency and coming down in price if you can afford to wait. |

no contest
honda fit the list -- after the fit, another value buy is the vw city golf. it's a reliable tried and true older model. city golf - $15,300K + pdi & taxes 5yr/100K powertrain, 4yr/80k vehicle, 4yr roadside. -- Last edited by stephen_c; Sep 03, 08 at 05:04 PM. |

Alright, this is entirely anecdotally based but...
As far as I understand it's a matter of cost vs. frequency of maintenance, no? As in, yes the parts cost more but you'll need to replace them less often due to wear & tear. Keep in mind, of course, that doesn't take into account accidental damage. If you're an error-prone driver that may be something to take into consideration. (Anybody with experience otherwise please feel free to refute me) |
