Why can't more animated movies clearly be inspired by drug use and the urge to draw topless fairies...

Wizards struck me as carrying a lot of the same themes of Lord Of The Rings, which is that people who wield technology as the central source of power will ultimately destroy the humanity that resides within us, whereas human spirit, determination and basic goodness will be our salvation.

Pirsig takes a different approach on technology, in that someone should find personal harmony amidst the technology and not fear or hide from it, because that's the only way to truly understand your relationship with the tech.

Boo. Bakshi > 80's Nintendo-funded advertisement.

Though The Wizard will always hold a special place in my heart.

We discussed zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance in my new media class, isn't it kind of obsolete now though? Everything is chip enabled now for the sake of profit. I mean I understand the concept but my fiance owns a Buell firebolt and it's pretty much impossible to do any work on it, even purchasing the service manuel cost an additional $60

With respect to automotive, definitely. But that's not to say that the themes and his approach to technology in general don't still apply. Zen & The Art has been a favourite amongst computer geek culture for exactly this reason.

Computer nerds are the new car & bike hobbyist. This is a comparison that's been made countless times. Neal Stephenson made it often in his In The Beginning Was The Command Line essay.

no way some, pollution control, performance considerations and the resultant shift to fuel injection is what drove the movement to OBD standards and having the engine managed by a computer rather then some analog device.

besides alot of the work can be done without even touching the computer, and if your automotive savy you can buy add ons and standalone ecu's so you can control everything yourself.

my buddy has a standalone system for his car he can reprogram everything with his laptop. people who say cars are all dominated by the computers so manufacturers can charge 90 bucks an hour for service are just ignorant. also as to what rawb said all this information is out there, the internet is a great way to find it.

there is nothing more satisfying than being able to manage your engine performance from inside your car.

when you think about it, technology has created societies from the very beginning. The success of a civilization has always relied on adaptability, it's human nature. Adaptability is taking the things around you and learning to work with them to make life easier in some way. Thooooousands of years ago, it was stone tools and irrigation systems. With the wealth of knowledge and information that is readily available now, it becomes more complex but still plays just as important a role.

Is technology dangerous? yes. have you ever seen maximum overdrive?

At least in our less technologically advanced ignorance, we pulled up the blinds to see if it was raining instead of checking out The Weather Network's website.

a hippy who makes 80K is most likely not a real hippy,

this is exactly what happened to the 13 colonies in battlestar galactica. the cylons used the colonists networked computers against them.
