So with the Sedins pretty much out the door, who do you think we'll get/moves will we make?

Some possibilities:

- Gaborik -> Bought a house in Van, close with Demitra, likes smoking the green while he's injured (yeah ok, that was a stretch)
- Jbo -> lots of doubt he'll sign with the Flames, and if they do, they'll probably need to let Jokinen go
- Hossa -> I doubt will resign in DET, esp if they want to keep Hudler
- Heatley -> Probably won't as the asking price is 2 players + pick, but who knows, maybe Gillis will risk it and send Bieksa/Kesler/Grabner out there.

I think we'll be seeing Gabo + 2 other top 6 forwards in Nucks uniforms.

Aside from every rumor/insider site saying that negotiations are dead..... even TSN finally release a report that Gillis hasn't even sent a counter offer.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love for them to stay, but in all honesty they're more likely to be wearing blue and white come next season.

It's definitely possible, but a lot of times things can look like they're at an impasse in the negotiating process when really both sides are blustering and trying to get the other side to blink first. We'll see what happens when push comes to shove.

I'm sad in principle to see Mattias go. He's been so solid with this team for so many years... but watching, I think it was Patrick Sharp?, go around him like he was a 6'4" pilon in this year's playoffs convinced me that his best years are behind him.

Glad to see we kept the twins, also glad we didn't give up more money for them. Definitely their strongest year thus far but they still need to push up their playoff game if they wanna see bigger and better things from us.

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed right winger Mikael Samuelsson to a three-year deal. In keeping with club policy terms were not disclosed.

Samuelsson, 32, recorded 40 points (19-21-40) in 81 games last season and 10 points (5-5-10) in 23 playoff games with Detroit through to the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. In 466 career NHL games Samuelsson has 208 points (86-122-208) and 244 penalty minutes. The Mariefred, Sweden native was a member of the 2007.08 Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings team and has produced a career total of 35 points (13-22-35) in 69 postseason games.

Samuelsson was a member of Team Sweden, winning gold at the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy in 2006, where he recorded four points (1-3-4) in eight games.

The 6’1”, 205-lbs winger was drafted by San Jose 145th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Solid signing IMO.

7.5 mil/3 years.... I'm kinda on the fence about that one. The guy seems to have a lot of respect for this club though and I could see him being a good addition. I'd almost expect out of him everything Sundin gave us without the disappointment.

negs: creates a weird log jam at the second line for the next 3 years, he's 32 and probably peaked in terms of skill development/point output, has a bit of a wild shot

pros: has won a world championship/stanley cup/gold medal, scores a lot of clutch goals it seems, player you can put out there with 5 minutes to go

i think we payed about .5 mil/yr too much but whatevs

Any theories so far on C? Somehow I think Lui was a bit of a well-we-need-somebody decision... so far Samuelsson seems to actually be a bit of a front runner. Would love to see Burrows with a letter on his shirt but he's still pretty young and inexperienced...

If anyone takes the C in the future it's Kesler, i don't see Burrows with a letter for at lease another year he's not really a "talk to the refs" kind of guy yet, though more mature

Burrows is basically the Canuck's resident shit disturber(still love the guy) on the ice, so yeah, I agree not mature enough to talk to a ref.

Ohlund leaving does suck, but for what he ended up getting, he was not worth it.

Signing O'Brien for another year I'm on the fence. He's a pretty sub par defenceman, and takes stupid penalties.

I love the signing of Raycroft for back up goalie. He's cheap, and a decent back up. Maybe one day he can get his shit back together to what it was before.

i like O'Brien in the fact we have a tough guy that can play regular minutes. one of my favorite moments of the VAN/CHI series was Brian Campbell going for one of his signature spin-o-ramas, and O'Brien just waits for him to finish his dangle and knocks him on his ass. dude will also fight anyone.

i would say he rounded out in the last 1/4 of the season and isn't really a liability anymore. he still has potential to be more defensive minded. and more of a contributor in ways that aren't physical.

that being said, i think we overpaid for him by a couple hundred thousand/yr if he doesn't develop further.

^for 500k, he's more than worth risk. Plus, Gillis has stated that the backup position isn't even his yet. Schneider and him will be battling for it come camp. (That is if Schneider is still here)

The reason he's worth the risk is that there is no risk. Lou's signing long term and will be playing 70+ games a season. The amount we'll be counting on him (IE tying up a large part of our salary cap with him), we're screwed if he goes down w/ injury, so it doesn't matter who our backup is. We could sign an 8 year old and I'd be thrilled because he'd probably work for autographs.
