maybe it's just me, but it seems pretty silly to talk about karma in regards to a multi-million $ mainstream(ish) event where the main focus is getting as fucktarded as possible. [note:i have no problem with drugs or people getting fucked up but the majority of the populace at shambhala are basically amateur drug users. i prefer professionals.]

ha ha what can i say im a superstitious dude. theft is theft and karma doesn't discern between locations, let alone events based on their popularity/success. drug taking is a personal choice, it might be convenient to blame it on the event but the reality is that shambhala supplies it's patrons with music and a patch of grass to sleep on, the rest is up to the individual. |

^really good point inside... events are basically musicians bread and butter now that the worth of recorded music has plummeted.
Rich-E-Rich the founder of Fractal Forest (arguably the most popular stage) posted this on shambhala forum shortly after the festival this year. ........ ive probably forgot a name or 2 but everyone really killed it this year, i felt it was our best year yet production wise. unfortunately financially it was a disaster and im left 7 grand in debt over this so i will have to assess whether i can keep going on or if this is the high note i should leave on, its hard to imagine shambhala without the fractal forest and team fractal next year but i just cant live my life without out financial security after 12 years of creating the greatest show in the world, that just does not make sense. ...and finally thanks to all the fans, without you, none of this is possible. Still think ripping off hardworking folks has no effect ? Grow the fuck up people. |

^ i don't think people sneaking in is the main reason for the cash losses, surely a lot has to do with budgeting mistakes- but it doesn't help... I just wanted to put it into perspective exaclty how much money these guys make because some people in this thread are of the opinion that the organizers are growing fat and rich at the expense of our nation's youth or whatever lol.
obviously that's not the case when the promoters are leaving the show with less money then they started |

This was the biggest year for summer festivals yet. Soundwave, BitF, VEMF and others reported their biggest years yet. Pemberton didn't happen, but they had a Virgin Festival this year (they didn't last year cuz all the Virginfest people were working Pemberton). Also there was Bass Coast Project, Uprising Fest, Godizus, Autonomous Mutant Fest, Otherworld.... So Shambles lost money. There's too many people there anyway, and it's a bit of a sketchfest these days. I say again, this was a huge year for summer festivals. If you missed it, that's too bad, but don't look to a single festival to be anything of an indicator of the state of the scene, especially when there are so many options available. |

if you have 10K-15K people coming to your show and you're loosing $7K then you have budgeting problems. there's no other reason for them to lose money since they're basically guaranteed a certain no. of people each year.

^ I was gonna say something along those lines, because last I heard they were capping sales, which would effectively mean that they sold out. If they can't cover their expenditures when they sell out then it's nobody's fault but their own.
That being said, I haven't heard any ideas as to how many people there were this year. If they didn't break 10k then yeah, I could see why they'd lose money. Anybody have any clue what the numbers were this year? Was it busier/as busy/less busy than previous years? |

good point all around but....
the bottom line is this, promoters put in hard work to makes these events go off and Im sure if it was your party and you invested all your time and money you would expect people to pay to. the only way we can keep partys like this going on in the electronic scene going is if we all support. no matter how much they charge, how much they make or loss its their party and not our business. if you want to go so badly you have to respect what they ask, if you can afford it, be sure to save up for next time.
