If there was a real subculture who just banded together because of their interests... It would have people in Tuxedos, people in spandex, people in shirts and shorts, people wearing dark clothes, people wearing scrubby clothes, etc etc etc ....

Hey KK, big girls need lovin too...

And as far as the individuality thing goes, there is a reason I hold party people in higher regard than other subcultures.

Unlike most goths, hiphop people etc... ravers KNOW they're fake. They know its artificial, that its a fucking costume and is not meant to be taken seriously. Every costumed subculture out there is being sold an image, but most don't realize or accept it.

When I lived in Ottawa some of my friends were Goths, and they latched onto that scene going through the angsty mid-teens listening to the Smiths and NIN and burning incense and wishing they were vampires. I'll say this for them: they cultivate a wicked sense of sarcasm. I heard the most vicious and clever shit said over coffee at four in the morning. I also played chess with a guy on mushrooms who thought I was a figment of his imagination (I won). yeah, that was Ottawa.

Oh, and every subculture gets mainstreamed. Thats how they get destroyed and lose their relevance. Its the social version of clearcutting. You harvest it all so nothing can grow.

yeah, what ash said.

Here's a thought.... why don't you stop worrying so much about what other people do and focus on yourself?

If some alienated kid wants to dress in black just like every other 'goth' as you put it and claim himself a unique individual, let him do it! I know what its like to go through that stuff... maybe they are just being themselves.

At some point in our lives we've all been singled out once or twice and criticized or been made fun of.... did you like it? I'm guessing not.... Besides, what does it take to be an individual? The way you make it sound NOBODY is an individual. The only way to be completely unique is to walk around naked because you have to assume that somebody has the same article of clothing as you SOMEWHERE.

Then again if you walked around naked you'd be just like every other nudist in the world right? Uniqueness comes from inside and is is presented on the outside however that individual chooses to do so. I think people should stop being so damn critical and just accept people the way they are. let them be who they are because the last thing they need, or care about most likely, is what the fuck YOU think about them. Just my 2cents on the subject.
