So just how "old"school are you?
This thread is created due to a comment about Luvafair.
So how old do you go back? I remember when the Drink was Systems, had the mirrored hallway you walk to get into the club and Eddie worked the main bar back then too. Amnesia's was one cool club too until it mysteriously burnt down. Graceland had the best techno nights and Church Night on Sunday was great. Celebrities always had the best disco house in the city. When Saturno Supperclub was THE place to have dinner and now is called Atlantis. Your memories? |

i'm old skool victoria, but i do have my memories of Van from back in the day..... Sol @ Graceland w/ Markem & Isis.... HQ Comm. 'Break' parties... Airtight @ the Chameleon... seeing Logical Progression (Bukem, Blame, PFM, Conrad) and Metalheadz (Ed Rush, J. Majik, Doc Scott, Justyc) a week apart in Sonar's opening month.... E Theatre parties.... never went to Luvaffair, i got enough of that type o' action @ Scandals in Vic
i'd regail you with old skool Victoria anecdotes, but anyone on this board from the Island would be far too young to have any clue what i'm talking about... |

Moved to Vancouver in fall of '94...
I remember (fondly) when Luv-A-Fair was busy every night, and Tuesdays had longer lineups than many other clubs did on weekends; I remember my other favourite club, Twilight Zone, which has gone through numerous name/format changes and is currently 7 Alexander; I remember Mondays and Thursdays at Graceland...and that it was changed to Palladium; I remember raves presented by LoungeX; I remember when electronica was considered another form of alternative music; I remember Paul Oakenfold @ Riverside for $25; I remember a rave at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre for New Year's Eve; I'm sure I would remember more were I not at work... |

I remember when:
Spanish was the party place and Riverside was the "Massive party" place when wett bar was called MARS going to Luvafair when the Drink was Madisons ( that was one of my first clubs i went to ) when Shine was the Aztec or the Boiler Room ( can't remember which order they where in though ) |

I remember when there was a club called mars, then someone got shot, and then it became wettbar, until someone got shot, and now it's atlantis until someone gets shot again.
I remember when daddy-o's was the big bamboo, and it sucked just as much then as it does now. I remember the great tunes at celebrities. I remember the paladium when it was graceland, both had stellar nights, max graham throwing down a couple times there. I remember the town pump before it was sonar, used to be a great venue for live bands. I remember the world back at it's old venue before it became a filthy crack den. I remember the aztec club before it was shine. and a whole lot more. |

-+> When Shrum tribe still threw parties.
-+> When you could throw parties right on Spanish banks and not get busted. -+> When Riverside parties were massives and people actually looked forward to them. :hehe: -+> When Jump-up was king in the jungle room (*shudder*). -+> When I couldn't name dj's or differentiate between genres to save my life. -+> When people looked forward to Summer Love all year. -+> When Summer Love was a weekend-long event. -+> When Twisted was a night at the Java Joint. ;) -+> When loungex and THC were on the same server. -+> When E cost $30-50 a cap and I did mushrooms instead. -+> When Burger King at Robson and Granville was surrounded by ravers in bright colored Laramy cords during the day before a party. -+> When I didn't know what Jib actually was. Oh god...I'm sure I'll think of more...Nice trip down memory lane though. :D |

-+> When people offered you water and the only fear you had was that they might be sick.
-+> When glow-sticks were still considered acceptable. -+> When there were smart-bars at parties. -+> When Subeez was a raver pre-meet place. -+> When random people would check up on you if you were sitting at a wall/by yourself. -+> When the average age of ravers was 21 Man...I must have looked so young to those people... |

i go back to my first party in 1992 in calgary.
it was house of unity's second party, and it started the skater/punk/raver crossover in calgary. quite a neat experience for a young kid like me back then. all hardcore, with one house set. way different the the punk and hip-hop i was used to. nobody had ever heard of those stupid candy kids or junglists idiots, there was just ravers. also, maybe only 25% of the people at them back then, did drugs. to bad it all went to hell. if anyone from calgary is on here, they would remember the good old parties at the bank, and at the royal stag. even the ogden warehouse for silver and so phat one. i miss house of unity. |

My first party was called Key-Ops, and was at the Lux. (1993)
I remember the first Emotion I remember the bingo hall at the end of Granville which is now a hotel. I remember the creepy little venue on top of Bassix I remember Dose, Tribal Matrix, and Delicious. I remember the venue on Napier. And the one by Dairyland. And the airport hangar. *sigh* I really miss those days...... :( |

I remember LoungeX
OWNZ0R3D!!!!!1 I'm not oldschool. I do, however, remember rocking out in my living room to Herbie Hancock when I was 3. I'm middle-to-new-school I guess... I remember parties out in Forestry Pools... wait.... those still happen.... I remember sketch-ass bus rides in Sooke in Summer of 98 (99? I ferget) when we were trying to make sure that the cops didn't follow us to the party. I remember the last Soundproof party before everybody started talking about Soundproof parties and it became the in thing. I remember someone railing off of my armour at the Soundproof party after that. I remember 5 overdoses and 2 deaths at Thunderbird Stadium and how it was the first real note of problems with this new "Ecstacy" drug that had started to kick around vancouver a lot.... I'm not oldschool really. I remember a shitload of stuff from the Van scene that a shitload more people were here long before then... I remember a rather uneventful island scene as it pretty much consisted of everybody just going fucking crazy in the period of night, and all kinds of fucking shit up occurring in such mass quantities that they actually were somewhat reminiscent of the Acid Tests that predecessed them by a good number of decades. However, I also remember rocking out to Herbie Hancock in my living room last night. |
