This is a very shaky statement. First of all the 3rd worlds industrialization is highly dependant on western consumers. Without North American consumers importing all the goods that we do there would be much less demand for all the 3rd world manufacturing.
Also I disagree with the notion that human nature is to blame for all these problems. Greed and selfishness are not inherent traits of all people. Rather they are in my opinion learned behaviours and for some coping mechanisms.

It is hard to explain all of this over the net. Especially when there's just so much that needs to be said to fully explain your point. I do understand what you're saying and recognize that it's true in some respects. I also believe that positive change can be created (insert cliché here), necessity is the mother of invention.
My general point is that for the most part the life style that people in the west can achieve is in no way sustainable over the long term. We are consuming the worlds resources at a voracious pace and need to learn how to live a much simpler existence.
