Hair Straightening (question for girls)
im sooooooo sick and tierd of having to straighten my hair every single day. i've been doin this for the past 6 years i think and it's just driving me crazy. my hair used to be nice and wavey way back when but because i've been pulling at it for so many years it just looks all puffy if i dont straighten it.
so my question is to all you girlys out there that straighten your hair.. wat kinda products do you use? any name brands as well as the places that sell these products would really help me out a lot. thnx |

i think the best idea (if u want waves) is to get a serum or something that defines curls.. i dunno what brand or anything u like.. but theres tons of stuff out there for defining curls. or waves same thing...
or u can get an anti-frizz serum which works. my sister uses it.. which is pretty much like the definiton of curls. i dunno.. lol and if u want straight hair all the time.. goto a slaon and get it permentantly straightened... i'm pretty sure it grows out like hair color.. so u have to keep getting ur roots done. that or it lasts 3 months like a perm. i think, i can't really remember from hair school.. |

Yep, what she ^ said, Products Products, Products.. make a world of difference! I actually got the Ionic hair straightening, and its the mildest hair straightening perm on the market(japanese). but beware of fakes!! Or just find a good product for waving your hair, wavey hair is fakkin hot! try scrunching it with some boy-toys and lotsa hairspray.. even put it up ina bun or ponytail for a few hours while it dries, then just mess it up after. HOT! try a tiny spray of hairspray on thick strands and curl witha curlin iron.. so many things to do! u just havta play around!! or take the easy way out and do the IONIC!! :429:

I have super straight hair naturally and I wish it was semi-wavy or something so maybe it could stay in curls or waves when I attempt to style it but noooo...
Anyways, if you're finding your hair is getting fried, I'd recommend using the TIGI Catwalk Spritz & Shine, it's a Heat Safe Styler so you just spray it on before you style and it protects your hair from getting damaged. When you're done blow drying or straightening I'd recommend using either the TIGI Bedhead After-Party Cream to tame flyaways or use Farouk Silk Therapy which every girl should own because it does miraculous things for hair! |

I have a ceramic hair staightener, & I can't live without it! Its amazing, you slide it down the hair once, & your hair is beautifully shiny & straight. Apparently the ceramic plates protect the hair from the kind of heat damage you would get from a regular hair straightener or a blow dryer. So if you're willing to spend 160 bucks on that baby! its well worth it, wheee! :)
oh yes, & lil bunny...Its all bout the deep conditioning, try using a hot oil treatment as well, then serum afterwards!!! Works like a charm :) Last edited by ~*faeryfly*~; May 29, 04 at 12:47 PM. |

i straighten my hair everyday too.. my natural hair is a bit wavey, but its really not that hard to handle. i shampoo and condition with pantene pro v, towel dry hair/air dry til damp, put in the fructuse milk smoothing lotion, air dry again, spray the fructuse leave in conditioner/frizz control and comb my hair straight. (i stay away from brushes)..and if its still not straight..then away i go with the straightenin iron.
if ure hair is super curly, definately do the japanese hair straightening stuff, my coworker does it and her hair is super straight and looks awesome.. just kinda sucks if ure hair grows out really fast. where do u buy the ceramic iron? |

i have super thick.. and very curly hair..
wen i say thick.. i mean.. i havta blowdry, then iron, then blow dry again and then iron again.. let my hair rest abit.. then about an hour later iron and then blow dry .. but luckily my brother is a hairdresser.. and he has this ultra special iron thing that works soooo good.. it jus takes forever cuz he hasta section my hair off.. it usually takes bout 1 hour if my hair was already settled and blowdried.. if its partially damp it takes 2 hours for final results.. the straightener i think costs like 500$ but my bro gets it for deals.. even tho it is very expensive it works very well... and for straight to wavy hair it wouldnt take long to do. |

yeah, you can get ceramic irons at most salons these days. maybe just not at the old school barber's shop. i got mine from henessey in oakridge. my work sells them (absolute spa), pompadours on 4th has them...just go to any mall salon and i'm sure you won't have a problem. i have an ionic blowdryer that i use with some straightening balm in my hair. i use this anti-snap hair stuff to protect my hair from the heat...i actually put that on even before i use the hairdryer. then i spray shine/protectant stuff in my hair (fashionista by bedhead). blowdry a bit more until mostly dry (still a little damp), then i either put a bit of shine serum throughout my hair and leave it, or i do that and then use my iron. doing a GOOD job with an iron takes a long time though, even though it's so hot. cause you have to do it thin layer by thin layer, and it's so hard to get your hair to stay or to do certain parts like the back. lol.

de-ionization straightening
perma-straight hair i think that's what it's called. it's like 1-2 bills at a salon. and i'm not talkin about goin to Supercuts Magiccuts or whatever. haha go to richmond and get it done... not as expensive as Suki's but still pretty nice IMO. |

I have a ceramic AND ionic hair dryer - the thing is fucking wonderful. No frizzies, no flyaways.
I have dead straight hair to begin with, but if I'm going to go out in the evening after my hair being down all day it gets limp and boring so I use a normal $35 conair straightener to fix it up. For your hair though, DEFINITELY get a ceramic straightener...and don't mess around with the cheap ones. If you buy it at a salon and it doesn't cost $150-$200+ you're wasting your money. |

my advice would be...stop straightening it!!!!!!!! I straightened it everyday for like 3 years!!!!!!!!!!! it was so gross and damaged by the end of it...now i wear it naturally curlyish and its so much healthier, it was weird getting used to it at first but now i think it looks better..everyone should wear there hair the way its supposed to be i think it looks better that way!!!!!!!! but if you are positive you need to iron it then go for ceramic straightners they cost like 200 dollars but they are amazing!!!!!!!!

the only products i find that work on my hair are ecru serum and this little package from england called frizz miracle. i wouldnt be able to live without it.
i do not have white girl hair. if my hair was short again i would have hair like that new vj on much music. its madness. chemical straightening has made several peoples hair I know break off and become completely dry and brittle. to avoid the hassle and hell of 2 hours starightening each time i wash my hair, i do it once, have it curly for a few days, and treat myself once a week at the salon to get my hairdresser to straighen it all nice. it costs $25 and saves me a whollllllllllle lotta time and effort. plus....we all know how good our hair looks after the salon. |

Some good products to help with your problem is Smooth Down and Smooth and Seal by OSIS. Some products which help protect your hair when flat ironing is the hair tonic by SexyHair and their Soya Want So Flat. If you find you are getting alot of flyaways just take hairspray and spray it onto your hands and run your fingers through the hair or take some light pomade or anti-frizz serum and lightly apply to hair. Maybe using a different shampoo may help too, such as the SilkySexyHair line. Reconstructers, Deep conditioning treatments, and leave-ins (Try the Extreme Line by REDKEN) will help alot with your gross and damaged hair. Get a ceramix roundbrush with natural bristles.
Maybe you should try and wash your hair every couple of days. Its real good for your hair too. Maybe then your hair wouldn't be so disgusting Bev your gross....pantene - ewwww. that shits full of wax. I hope you lose your hair and you go bald. And brushing your hair smoothes down the cuticle. You must have had crappy brushes just like your crappy shampoo. Last edited by marvin; May 30, 04 at 12:39 PM. |

i have an ionic hairdryer and it works like you wouldn't believe! i had the worst fly aways because of dying my hair and damage....and i no longer have em anymore. my hair is already super straight so i wouldn't be able to give you a lot of tips...except that i use physique straighting lotion and if i want shine, i put shine shock 'brilliant brunette' by john frieda. both work like a charm...and believe me, i've gone through so many products and finally i've found some that actually work with my hair! good luck!
