i'm sure some of you are genuinelly curious about the reality behind the d'n'b/jungle split.. if you follow the music closely then there are some key points that stand out as the placeholders for where the division begins. in 1993 there was no distinction. the runnin-rhyme-time style of jungle at this point was based entirely on mancunian breakcore and even early cockney speedcore, back when it still sat at around 170bpm. around 09/93 things began to change. the Backdraftz label-affiliated DJ Alien WHO! began to experiment with staccato 1/16th note high-hat combinations on the third beat, giving rise to a distinctive sound that we would later know as d'n'b. before the sound really came into its own, however, the little-known recording artist destro fetale would have to have a monumental epiphany... word has it that while listening to alien who! spin a seminal set at Suffolk's legendary Highjinx club, destro passed out while inhaling poppers.. he fell over, causing his head to bounce twice quickly against the cement floor of the venue.. after his friends revived him, destro had a 32nd note triplet combination stuck in his head that he later hammered out on a roland mc-97097...... and the rest is history. pretty much anything that has been called d'n'b since has been based on this pattern and right now i'm so full of shit it's backing up my throat. i'm drunk and i'm going to bed. good night.
