i did the mavs buy their team? i may be wrong but didnt they TRADE! for walker and jamison. And as the magic buying Tmac and hill, its called salary managment. They had the cap room and signed two all star players. payton and malone were max players who took pay buts to sign with the lakers. Thats buying your team, and their the only ones in the nba who have.

I dont see luke steppin it up again, nor do i see any one beside kobe and shaq being consistent. Iv been waiting all playoffs to see the glove break out, but i have yet to see it. The lakers need that third guy to step it up, shaq and kobe cant do it all.

contrary to what doc rivers says, i believe the lakers need to fuckin show up and play!

aight... im a fan of the game of basketball in general, but when i see the lakers playing atrociously, something's not right. it's like the movie space jam, where all the nba superstars have their powers stolen away by aliens.

if the lakers dont win the championship... something's not right. don't get me wrong, the pistons are a good team. but to call them the nba champs?! it's like calling the calgary flames the stanley cup champs! i especially hate any team that rasheed wallace is on cuz he just talks and talks like some ghetto ass bum.... and we're gonna see him hoist the nba trophy?! please no...

and i know ppl just love ben wallace and his hard work ethic... but let's get serious here. he can't score if his life depended on it... but the usa basketball committee selected him to play on the olympic team?! what has basketball come to?! guys who can grab rebounds like animals but can't even put the ball in the hole without the luxury of a breakaway dunk are gonna be hailed as all-stars?!

with all this being said... i am now officially rooting for the lakers. furthermore... detroit is a city with no class. i remember reading an article in the vancouver sun about how toronto raptor fans drove down to detroit to root for their team. seeing these canadian fans in their raptors jerseys, the detroit fans proceeded to yell racial slurs at them and even throw beer and spit on them.

looking back on it, i used to hate the bulls when they had michael jordan and they had their incredible dynasty. i was rooting for the jazz, cuz i felt, "Oh...wouldn't it be great for two future hall-of-famers like Stockton and Malone to win one championship?" of course... i was much younger back then. but when i think about it now... i just respect and admire what the bulls did. they set a benchmark for greatness... seeing what MJ did was just incredible... almost god-like.... legendary... heroic.

that's what im looking for with the lakers here, something just absolutely awesome and spectacular from shaq and kobe, something which just further cements their greatness as basketball players.

right now... watching the pistons dominate the lakers... its like watching some street hoodlum pummel muhammad ali.

so cmon lakers! show up and play!

(still... lakers in 6!)

wow deken you summed it up and i think you might of swayed me. I have 50 bucks riding on detroit, but i think I would pay up easily to see the lakers win this one. Its the end of a dynesty. Phil and gone kobe will leave, malone and payton are done. Its like jordans last shot before retiring.. just the perfect way to end it.

thiers just one problem life isnt a fairy tale. The Lakers are playing like shit, you just dont get blown out in a critical game of the nba finals. Where is their heart?

About another hour before tipoff...

I still say Lakers in 6... although I never expected it would happen this way

After three lackluster games... especially after the embarrassing game 3 loss, I think Lakers will finally wake up and respond. They know it is imperative to tie up the series right now...

Then they also know that game 5 will be absolutely pivotal... and they will win.

Then after being up 3-2, Lakers won't miss a chance to put away the Pistons...
