I would think that Nigel has a way better idea of what plur is about than alot of people... the only part of PLUR that may have came out of the rave scene is the acronym itself. The idea behind it has been around for ever. The 4 ideals behind plur are basic guidelines to living a good life. Peace: Make peace, not war. Love: Love what you do. Love your friends. Love everybody. Unity: Remember that we're all in this together, we are all human, no matter what we look like/act like Respect: Respect others and you will get it back. Without respect, its hard to make the other three ideals work. |

These people seem to be linking Candy and PLUR together in everyway. They are not the same thing. Peace, Love, Unity, Respect are used inside AND outside the party scene. plur is something that is put on a flyer to sell tickets. an acronym is not a way to live your life. to associate plur with candy is valid because in the current 'raver social system', plur doesn't mean its own literal meaning. it's slang for something else, it almost stands as a symbol for the charicature of the clueless candyraver. to take the world 'plur' seriously is fine, but it's meaning is so diluted don't get pissy when other people don't see it the way you do. the whole idea is just elitist. do you see people who have been raving longer than you acting like fuckheads? do you see intelligent people who have been raving less than you? if you answer yes to either of those, then the whole argument is naught. you can't say your point of view is valid because you've partied more. there are the informed and there are the ignorant. that's it. and if you still contend people that have partied longer have a better view of raving, then *i* say you're wrong, and i've been around longer than you have. nyah nyah. poo poo. r. |

to sum up beliefs as an acronym is stupid. what are you to gain by suggesting such an ideal? do you honestly think people out there are running around going preaching 'War! Hate! Segregation! Prejudice!'? if you're living your life by 4 vauge terms you may as well just not live by any terms at all. there are so many actions that i think are morally wrong but i can validate through saying they are for 'peace love unity and respect'. there are actions i do every day that i agree with that may not fall in your predefined notions of what 'peace love unity and respect' are, but fit another's idea of it perfectly. Peace: Make peace, not war. Love: Love what you do. Love your friends. Love everybody. Unity: Remember that we're all in this together, we are all human, no matter what we look like/act like Respect: Respect others and you will get it back. Without respect, its hard to make the other three ideals work. your own definitions? how self centered. do you even think? i prefer to use my own morals than to abide by something that can be summed up in a handy acronym. r. |

no you have no clue. yes I do. and actually i think you do too.... jumped the gun a bit on that one. oops to sum up beliefs as an acronym is stupid. what are you to gain by suggesting such an ideal? I never SUGGESTED plur as an ideal to live by. that was done a LONG time ago. I just happen to THINK its a good ideal to live by. As for summing it up as a nice little acronym... I prefer to keep things simple when I can. I already have a bad habit of adding unneeded confusion to things, so I'd rather just keep things simple when I can. I mean, why make things more complicated than they need to be? do you honestly think people out there are running around going preaching 'War! Hate! Segregation! Prejudice!'? Not preaching it directly, no. But it's definetly out there. Prime example: Recent racism against afghans. It kind of touches on all 4 things you just listed. if you're living your life by 4 vauge terms you may as well just not live by any terms at all. Vague? more like universal. there are so many actions that i think are morally wrong but i can validate through saying they are for 'peace love unity and respect'. like what sort of actions? name some for me. there are actions i do every day that i agree with that may not fall in your predefined notions of what 'peace love unity and respect' are, but fit another's idea of it perfectly. Ha!! You have NO IDEA how much I think. Sometimes its way too much for my own good.... ugghhh. as for the definitions, of course I came up with them myself. It's how I see it to mean. Everyone's definitions of it are different, I imagine. i prefer to use my own morals than to abide by something that can be summed up in a handy acronym. You know what? If you put your mind to it, ANYTHING can be summed up in a handy little acronym. whatever though. I'm not trying to change your mind about anything. This is just the way I see things. As I said before, I think the ideals behind Plur are something that has been around for a hell of a long time, and they're also something that alot of people live by these days, and live good lives because of it. I agree with nigel too, there are alot more things to life than peace love unity and respect, but I just think those are some good simple guidelines to try and live by. The rest of life is complicated enough as it is, so I may as well try and keep at least part of it simple. I'm going to stop preaching now though, I have a sneaky feeling that I'm not making quite as much sense as I think I am. :( Last edited by Rytalin; Dec 05, 01 at 10:05 PM. |
