first off, the staff is the best in the city. They have an expert in each genre. if you go in there and say "gimme the hot new breaks" they'll hook you up with everything.
ask avi, "hey what was the original track to that wu tang joint?" he'll know it.
they're that good.

they have the most eclectic record stock in the city. nobody beats them in hip hop. nobody beats them in breaks.

they also have a huge used record selection.

ive probably sunk over 6 grand into that place, but without them my record collection would be in shambles.

Vinyl is a good one too. they have a great selection of used stuff, and he usually ends up having the newer stuff in stock too.
only problem with the store is david the owner will try and rip you off.
always pay cash to avoid getting taxed, and try and barter if you're buying a lot of records. you can usually get about 30 dollars off.

between those two stores and dancerecords.com i dont really need to shop anywhere else.
chemical probably has the best service out of anyone in th uk and its damn cheap.
vinyladdiction is unreliable and juno is a rip off.
Yeah i've been in there the last couple of weeks since they moved and there breaks selection is slim to none as far as New Releases and Promos go. Maybe for more downtempo funk and stuff i know they are good for that kinda thing.

their house section is really really good.

how do you figure they charge out the ass for records. its the same or less then anyone else in the city.
as for used records, the only place you can find cheaper is value village.

as for skip ez, maybe you didnt go on new release day?

they charge out the ass cause up until they moved, they were paying about %80 less on rent than everyone else. and only recently have the rest of teh stores upped the price of records to around the same level. they really hda NO excuse to be charging that much. and if you think that they have such a great dance (house breaks etc) selection, it's probably cause it doesn't get picked thru as much.

Boomtown is my favorite place to shop, but obviously i'm biased... still, we can't be beat for promos, especially in the Breaks & DnB sections. We've recently expanded our hip hop & reggae sections, so now we carry TONS of old-skool classics & hot new joints for prices well below those of other local shops... our only downfall is that we get picked over too quickly on shipment days! Beat Street gets huge props from me, they have an insane shop & great staff... but as any experienced record shopper knows, you can't find everything in one place....

That said, OTIS is my favorite place (other than my own) to buy vinyl. I rarely walk out of there less than $100 poorer. Always good finds, and Todd usually has a cold one waiting for me when i walk in :) good times!!
