I really liked Hypnotic and Zion Records. Both had wiked friendly service and cus they didnt seem so poular they always had stuff in ;)
Unfortunantly both were way out of my way... hence why they probly had to close down :( On Deck and Boom Town are alright (now even further apart) but usually I walk out with finding nothing :( Havnt been to bassix in over 2 years? Strange I dont really know why that is? Theres a couple of second hand ones down town that can be really good if your luckly. Not telling my most successful record store though... so obviouse probly :P Last edited by Ree Fresh; Nov 08, 04 at 05:19 AM. |

ya i pretty much shop everywhere. I use chemical a lot, Release records is good, www.abovethesky.com has probably the best customer service. www.DJMR.com is great if you dont have a credit card, they do COD orders to people in Canada, used them a bunch before the visa.

Boomtown is pretty good.. and boomtown is usually the case for local shopping, since when you walk in, you don't have specific tracks in mind (cuz if you did, you'd order them online).. and you can try out some reks there. can't do that at virgin. Ondeck is pretty good. their selection is pretty limited, but they get some sweet stuff in from time to time. lots of tribal tunes. Hipnotik used to be good. and it was right by my work. too bad they closed down. |

I get most of my DnB from On-Deck, and my trance from Boomtown.. I also pick some stuff up at Virgin once in a while, usually vinyl is cheaper there, but you cant listen to any of the records and hardly any of the tracks they have can be found on that listening station thing.. My fav. record store used to be hipnotik tho, had lots of good and hard to find stuff, too bad they closed down almost a year ago

ive only ever purchased 5 records locally.. everything else i get overseas
i think when it comes down to it, what separates a good local record store from a bad one is customer service. its not track selection because you can always easily order a track off an online store which will save you time and in some cases money as well. my favorite store was the one that was open in north van for a few months... i cant believe ive already forgotten what it was called but it was right on lonsdale. |

It was Vinyl Lab......^^^^^Shes gone now : ( I still don't really understand why people order records online. You can get the exact same records through your local record store and pretty much at the same time. The only reason i can think of would be if you liked the fact that it was delivered to your door. Oh yeah i gets all my crack from ON DECK.

Beatstreet -- they moved I think (604)-683-3344 Vinyl -- 466 W Cordova -- (604) 488-1234 Vinyl Lab was only the bestest while Trev worked there... :( |

beatstreet moved to Hastings, down near were bassix and blunt brothers were.
i like boom town but beatstreet is more better for the trance and all, more selection my personal preference is online, www.chemical-records.co.uk |

and what do you mean get the exact same record from your local? no you cant! unless you tell em to put an order for you... which you could do yourself. minus the service charge + the delivery to your door. |

beatstreet is the best by a long shot.
first off, the staff is the best in the city. They have an expert in each genre. if you go in there and say "gimme the hot new breaks" they'll hook you up with everything. ask avi, "hey what was the original track to that wu tang joint?" he'll know it. they're that good. they have the most eclectic record stock in the city. nobody beats them in hip hop. nobody beats them in breaks. they also have a huge used record selection. ive probably sunk over 6 grand into that place, but without them my record collection would be in shambles. Vinyl is a good one too. they have a great selection of used stuff, and he usually ends up having the newer stuff in stock too. only problem with the store is david the owner will try and rip you off. always pay cash to avoid getting taxed, and try and barter if you're buying a lot of records. you can usually get about 30 dollars off. between those two stores and dancerecords.com i dont really need to shop anywhere else. chemical probably has the best service out of anyone in th uk and its damn cheap. vinyladdiction is unreliable and juno is a rip off. |
