Support group for people with Christian carpools.
I'm starting an online version in this thread... this will be my log/journal of how frustrating/annoying it is to have a carpool driver (me being the only other one in the carpool, ack) that is a 100% bible bumpin freak.
Dec 9, 2004 Hi, my name is pbreak, and I have a problem. I've been riding with a christian, i'm not sure what sect, for about 3 or 4 months now and I need help. The driver, who from here on in shall be known as "Jesus Girl", basically only (and I mean only) listens to praise music. She even plays in a praise music band at church, and always has her music on in the car. I need not describe the horrors involved in listening to this form of music, at least I'm not ready yet emotionally to describe them. I believe that Jesus Girl is slowly trying to convert me, and she constantly brings up discussion topics that I would never want to talk to any devout christian about period, let alone when I'm stuck in a car with one and know I have to get a ride from this person the next day. We've had talks on nearly every major issue and so far I completely disagree with her on all almost every front.. not too long ago abortion came up, and I knew this was going nowhere good... she actually said one thing that made me seeth. I don't often seeth. Today, we argued over a bumper sticker on some guys truck: "Sole custody.. children should have both parents". I know I'm crazy but I assumed that this guy was some divorced parent having trouble getting any custody of his children... but according to Jesus Girl: "It's kind of funny, or backwards, because the attitude that lead this guy to put that sticker on his truck is what leads marriages to fail." First off this statement is not funny, secondly... what the fuck is she trying to say?? She had absolutely no idea who this person was or what their situation was (neither did i for that matter, but at least I can admit that). I asked her what she meant but I didn't get much a reply because I don't think she could logically explain her retarted statement. That's all for today, more to come... |

I'm not sure what she would have meant on that front either.... being a split parent myself I would have agreed with the bumper sticker! I love my kid to death and I need him about as much as he needs me.
As for dealing with Jesus Girl.... I'm not really sure what sort of support I can offer you to fight off her annoying ways. Maybe you should pray about it! :hehe: |

Wum.. you may think im over-reacting, but I think that you're not in my situation, and you're not me and can therefore not possibly know how terrible it really is. Did I mention that I'm very much agnostic and she constantly tries to bring up theological discussions which go absolutely nowhere (as most theological discussions do). She even said at one point that she knew where she was going (referring to Heaven) and very much insinuated that my heathen self would not be joining her. |

However, for those like pbreak who make actual informed decisions about their beliefs (and believe me this gentleman knows how to get informed), I think they may find it a little frustrating entering into a one-sided debate every time a new person wants to enlighten them. Your comments above are examples of that. |

do what i do when i dont want anyone to bother me or talk to me.
bring headphones, complain about how tired you are, and pretend to sleep the whole way in. fool proof. i should know, i did it every day for 6 months. it works wonders on the bus, but make sure you wear dark sunglasses so that no one knows you're actually sleeping. they've saved my ass SO many times....i love my sunglasses |

But Dave hit it right, the problems is she refuses to try to understand any other side besides her own no matter how much sense you make.. most of her arguements are based almost entirely on emotion as well instead any logic. Quote:
Oh yah, some more stuff... she has the "Adventures in Narnia", a group of books I actually enjoyed as a child, on CD and had one of them playing the whole trip last week (yes i did say she is 21)... and yes this is better than praise music, but now all those books have taken a twisted religious turn for me and I can't think about them the same way anymore. ps. I am NOT an atheist, I am agnostic.. pretty big difference. No more til tommorow. |
