Honda rocks all the way. I've had 3 Honda's and one Acura and I swear by em. Mazda could very well have improved in the last coupla years cuz the Mazda Protege's from 1998 fell apart like they were put together with tape and glue.
I love my car. 1986 Honda Accord LX, young as many kids on here, and never had one problem with it, ever. Have gotten a few odd things fixed, CV joints, new muffler and pipes and new O-rings on the fuel injectors but nothing major. My car's name is Sheba !! Haha. |

Ooooh I just remembered when I was looking at cars, I saw a lady in a parking lot with a mazda 3 and I asked her how she liked it. She said she loved it, but that the only draw back was when you put down the windows, they are too high up for you to rest your arm out of them. Just something to think about come summer time!

Yeah its kinda fun looking around and sitting in them... but it makes me want a car NOW! Ive test driven some of them and its helping me narrow down my dissition easly. The Mazda 3 was definently an AWSOME car. Definently beat the rest of the basic small cars. However its a bit much and more than what I need at the moment. I wasnt too emprest by Toyota. So far I think im narrowing my dissition between the civic and accel by Hynudia. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Jan 24, 05 at 12:41 AM. |

I worked at Enterprise Rent A Car - we had about 15 customers in December who had their Civics stolen.... the Civics are number 1 on the hit list. I guess they ship em being a port town etc - or gut them to the states.
I say buy private - save up for a few months, get yourself a 1993/94 reliable 4 cylinder economical car and pay it in one foul swoop - have a friend mechanic look it over - lease payments or monthlys will kill when money's tight, you may be getting help for payments - but its still a ball and chain and for HOW MANY MONTHS, 36 ?? 48 LOL thats a long time - what about if you want to travel? The lease won't just go away.... Car sales selling the dream its all bullshit - its a farce - buying a car is a BAD investment to begin with - its all to do with how you can screw yourself the least......Its not necessary to have a NEW car - just a reliable one. like most of the new COMPUTER CHIPS ON WHEELS (particularly Audi, every five minutes the engine light comes on!) they are going to require $$$$$ - The warranties don't cover a lot of the problems contrary to what you are lead to believe......I deal with the dealerships daily - I hear all the horror stories. Guess how ruthless they are when you can't make your payments - they will repo the vehicle and make you pay off the remainder, only then you will have no car.....whilst making the payments. A lease really screwed over my father a few years back when his company pulled the plug on the operation - He was on a fixed term lease for a premium SUV - he had to kick and scream to keep that vehicle on the road at upwards $600 month!!! They add all these extra costs in too. Buy USED is the Agent's verdict - used cars got more character anyway - and you are quite a character Rhi! And who said the Agent didn't make sense - all you dissin my safeway thread! Below is my first car I got it in 2003 for $900 and sold it last year for SAME PRICE! a 91 Hyundai Scoupe - I miss that car! now I got a 92 INFINITY G20 Last edited by AgentMC™; Jan 23, 05 at 11:53 PM. |

Best place to search for a used Honda. Hyundia's have a low resale value and high $ replacement car parts. Honda's are plentiful in the lower mainland so you can always find parts in the unlikely event something breaks. All '03 and newer Honda's come with a passive alarm which make them quite hard to steal compared to mid nineties Hon/Acura's. If you do go used get a Lo-jack, my cars have bean stolen three times and got them back. |

Thanks James. Well from what it seems a second hand civic is almost the same price as a new one? Im thinking it might be better to pay the extra now for the new car, 5 yr warenty, and knowing everything that happend to the car is a better deal then paying for the possible hassle of repairs to come after. After doing alot of math I think its best I save up, make the biggest down payment possible and finance the rest... aiming to get the lowest intrest rate possible. Im hopeing to pay the whole thing off in 2-3 years. |

Check the Consumer Reports magazines & ratings guides about new & used cars. Honda & Toyota have had super ratings for many years, also the other Japanese brands.
A car depreciates or loses value very quickly in the first few years so a new car is EXPENSIVE during that period no matter how you pay for it (cash, lease, or loan). But new is nice and not so bad if you keep the car for a long time (10+ years). I'd agree with the previous posting that said to look for a private deal on a 5-10 year old car, but finding a good one is some work. Unless a person can deduct the lease cost as part of employment expenses, leasing can cost a lot more than taking out a car loan. The car companies like to quote those low monthly payments in the car ads, sometimes they don't even tell you what the car really costs. I'd say don't lease, but if you must, get a friend who knows about car leases to check it over before you sign. Car sales people are SHARKS so be careful. If you let them know you really like a certain car they will not give you a good deal. It helps if you are ready to walk out if they don't give you a good deal. |

IMO, buy a Toyota.
I'm going to purchase an '00 or '01 Celica VERY soon. Although, with my new job, I am thinking that it might be a good idea to buy an '04, put $10000 down, and finance the rest. I looked into Preludes, Integras, RSXs, and Eclipses and the Celica came out on top. They are relatively fairly priced to fix, run like a dream, and I know 5 people who have them and have never had any problems with them. My grandma also has an '88 Toyota Tercel and she has never had to do anything other than regular maintenence. My 2nd pick was the Eclipse, the only reason it lost out was because parts are stupidly expensive and there are not very many of them around, so it's hard to find used parts. #3 would be the RSX - it drives like a dream, but again, very expensive to fix and the price point IMO is a little bit high. My grandparents want me to get a Nissan, but I can't afford a 350Z - if I could I would buy one in a second! They are so effing hot! My grands have an '04 Maxima that they LOVE (it's so phat, it has 20s on the back! My grandma is such a pimp!), and my great aunt has an '01 Maxima that she loves, too! Toyotas generally have higher resale values than Hondas, and also, EVERYONE drives a Honda, you will have the exact same car as a ton of other people in the city. Unless you're going to trick it out, that is. I wouldn't buy a BRAND new car if I were you - there are lots of trade ins that have only 20,000-30,000 kms on them. That will save you anywhere from $4,000 - $8,000 depending on the original cost of the car. The second you drive a brand new car off the lot it loses approx. 10% of it's value - seems like wa waste to me! Edit: My best friend's dad is a private dealer, and he also told me to get the Celica. He used to work for Downtown Toyota and he says that ALL of his customers were super happy with their Celicas, and have sent tons of business his way. I can get you all his contact info if you'd like! Last edited by galaxie; Jan 24, 05 at 11:07 AM. |

thanks nat!
Its sounds like your going for more of a pimp car than I. Id put up with transit, but my life style is getting so hetic and fun that all im really intrested in is a car getting me from point a-b. Id so go for a hotter more stylin car... yet I think ill save it when I decide to stop traveling and finish all my studies. Im still confused if to go used or new? Example looking at a 5 year car its about $5000 less then the new ones... However the warenty is over and ill be looking at paying that much in repairs posibly in teh future? It seems a bit risky? So if you bought it new you would know its whole history, have a 5 year warenty, no hassle of taking it in the shop and you get the benefit of a new car! tvman: thanks too! My dad has been keeping up with consumer reports for the past 10-15 years. Thats why hes starting to convince me into a Hyundia as they have really started to jump up near the top in the pst 5 years. Butyeah they really say alot and give you an intresting veiw on things. Last edited by Ree Fresh; Jan 24, 05 at 08:43 PM. |

that is exactly what my dad explained to me when I bought my first car. You know EXACTLY how much you pay per month. And if anything goes wrong...warranty! My dad just sold his car and bought a new one because his warranty was up and things started going wrong. No point putting all your money into fixing things. The good thing with a lease is in 3-4 years (whatever the lease is) you are free to say I'm going to travel now. No car to deal with. Some think its throwing your money away. But it's the same thing as rent. Finance payments are higher and in the end you own the car...but I sure like the idea of knowing I get a new car before this one starts crapping out on me. 1. What are you looking to do with the car?
2. How much do you want to spend? Honda's are good, but their main value is in reliablitiy & their resale value, if your'e leasing both of theses are useless you're better off leasince a sunfire with a really good warrenty. |

Buyout = $7,000 + 14.5% = $8015 Total = $26811.32 Total cost per month = $446.86 I'm guess this won't includ freight and what not. I work at a car dealership and we just sold a 1999 Civic CS hatch for $12,000 so that's accurate. If you're planning on buying out at the end of a lease check the financing options, there maybe one that fits your needs. |

Well yeah, in looks and performance, but not so much in price! Check out the breakdown one post above. You're going to be paying a total of $26,811.32 for a brand new civic. Or, you could buy an '03 or '04 Celica GT-S, lightly used, listed at approx. $22,000-$24,000. Keyword = listed. You could easily get them down to anywhere from $18,000-$20,000. Just go car shopping, test drive some rides, and really think about it. Shop around for the kind of deal you can get on a used car - IMO they're WELL worth it. And if you buy a used '03 or '04, it's still under warranty. |

i can't be bothered to read the other posts.
rhiannon don't do a lease, maybe unless your work gives you tax reductions (like if driving students around is part of your job, that may entitle you too deductions). leases sound like a good deal but in most cases they're not, and you end up paying more. plus on top of that, there may be restrictions for the lease, like you can only drive a certain amount of km in a period of time, and if you go over it they penalize you. that'd kinda suck if you ever wanna go on a roadtrip.. ;) best bet is to get a loan from the bank. gives you much more freedom. buy used, you'll save a nice amount of money. andrew lucked out and bought a not even year used honda, the previous owner leased it but walked out after a couple months. buying brand new has its perks, but imo it's not worth it. don't forget bout the insurance as well, you'll be paying a couple hundred more if it's brand new. if i were you, i'd go for a big minivan. lets be honest here, you suck at driving, and if you were to get into an accident that minivan may save you. volvos are pretty strudy cars, but after a couple of years, the maintenance and repairs are a bitch. when my mom had her volvo she had to go into servicing every other month. you'd look cute in a jeep tho, like a rubicon. i like the rubicon, (BUT IT AIN"T GOT SHIT ON SLUT BLUE)! my moms getting a new car, don't know what's happening with teh accord yet, but let me know if you'd wanna buy it. |

Im definently not going to lease. And with the Honda civic... all frieght prices etc are included. The reason im thinking honda because I coud posibly keep it for a good 10+ years or sell in 2-5 yrs.
Im still not convinced to even get a slightly used car. I look at not having a warenty, no idea how it was previousely treated, reparis, taking it to the shop, and just not being new... the prices/risk seem to all add up the same? Im planing on putting down a good $5000-$7000 and financing the rest in 2-4 years. |
