Actually, it probably says "unwashed, unworn, tags attached" on the receipt.
Keep in mind, retailers have the right to refuse service, PERIOD.
They do NOT have to take ANYTHING back even if it is within the exchange period and everything with the garment follows the exchange/refund policy. They can easily take it in the back or the office "for the manager to look at" and soil the garment with whatever, so that they can claim it is not saleable and refuse to take it back.
