Grocery Shopping Secrets?
Whats yours?
Here are mine. Work clockwise/counter clockwise around the store that way you're able to find veges, meat, dairy products before Chupa chupes!! and if you need chupa chupes get them BULK man!!! Do not get stoned prior to shopping! this can affect you in many ways. I have stood in front of the "great wall of womens hygene" for what seemed like a life time looking for cleaning supplies only to realize the cleaning isle was the next one over. And obviously all those tasty treats look even tastier under the inlfluence. |

cooking for one (and sometimes two), without a lot of planning, is equally as expensive as eating out all the time if you factor in time and wasted/spoiled food. if you're not comitted, you will probably save time/money/illness grabbing food in a local eatery.
you can eat really cheaply if you concentrate on spending the occasional sunday making a metric fuckton of pasta sauces you can then freeze. dry pasta does not go bad and is very convenient to boil and then add your awesome sauce to. this covers lunches and dinners for however long you want, you wont get scurvy and you will eat pretty damn well. you also dont need to know how to cook for shit to make pasta sauce. -plan out meals that use similar ingredients so you don't end up buying a shitload of something, only to use it once = $$$$
-buy stuff you can portion out and freeze what you don't use -although fruits and veggies seem like a lovely idea, don't go overboard or they will rot and turn to mush in the bottom of your fridge before you know it.. either that or you will be having stirfry every night until you use them all up. i do the same thing as mateo.. work the outside and pick up essentials, then hit the aisles. |

i always buy the exact same thing...
i go right to the deli and get honey maple turkey then to the milk place to get 1% and cranberry/orange tropicana Microwavable dinners Then i goto the produce and get lettuce, tomatoe, sometimes onions and green peppers if i'm feeling festive Ham and split pea soup from the can aisle And if im feeling like a big spender, i'll pick up some salmon or something to cook for dinner and maybe pick up a copy of Harpers from the magazine section... |

I just make sure I have a list (just to make sure I get everything)
and I make that list when ever I think of something I might need and just shop smart dont buy it if you thinks too expensive and you can live with out it and NEVER GO STONED it will be very difficult plus you'll buy more munchies than anything else |

i love grocery shopping its a weekly routine for me.. and i shop for myself. my eatin diet is completely diff than rest of family.. so i take care of myself. i hate cooking, so i buy everything premade/frozen/or super easy to make. so i start off in the frozen foods.. huge on michelinis for lunch (their mac and cheese..so awesome), and its usually like 4 for 8 bucks.. there goes 4 days of lunch. i walk down and allow myself to pick ONE unhealthy item (icecream, mccain spiral fries or pizza pockets usually) thats one... then over to veg/fruits.. bags of salads make awesome and cheap dinner. then ya..ALWAYS keep the major junk crap last.. huge on rice crackers, wine gums, hot tamales, stonewheat crackers + cheese, and arrowroots. mmm.
yea.. thats the plus for workin in a restaurant. awesome dinner for dirt cheap. ps. save on foods has the best premade 7 layer dip. yum. bestest munchables. |

Say your budget is $200..... Every item you put in the cart counts for $5 regardless of actual cost.
So you get 40 items , some will be cheap and some (like meat and dairy) wil cost a little more...but it seems to always work for me. I never go over budget and there is usually enough left for MACH 3 blades. |

I like to shop late at night when the crowds are gone so I get the whole store to my self, close parking, and no line ups!!!
Compare price/quality at diffrent stores ie. fresh organic fruits/veg/meat: save on/ save way/ local market (better quality) none parishable/bulk name brand items: super store (quality doesnt make a diffrence and you get a better deal) Last edited by Ree Fresh; Mar 16, 05 at 01:34 AM. |

buy veggies that are in season, anything that's not in season will cost ya.
in other words, DON'T BUY WATERMELON IN DECEMBER! as for the whole freezing dinners thing, you can do the same with yummy home made caseroles. i used to layer a tomato based sauce with cheeses, cooked pasta and veggies, top it with bread crumbs and cheese and freeze or bake at 350 until the cheese is bubbling and browning. (make sure you defrost properly if freeze it first) yummy, healthy and affordable. |

She knows where it's at. I always do my grocery shopping on Sundays and never before 10pm. Sure sometimes they're in the middle of restocking certain items, but the avoided annoyance and frustration of line ups and dealing with the general public is well worth the gamble imo. I know enough not to go shopping when Im hungry, but I hate the chore of grocery shopping so much that I will never put the effort into clipping coupons or going to several stores to save $0.20/lb on banannas. Watch your prices, if something seems over priced, chances are you can live without it. One of the best deals I take advantage of is that you can buy a whole frozen salmon for the same price as you get a fresh fillet chunk... ~$4-$6. I'd never know the difference. |
