Absolutely.. I find it bizarre that so many of you can claim to know nothing about the pope, that you don't even subscribe to catholicism and in the same breath announce that you've been deeply moved by the pope's death. The pope has a terrible track record in addressing key issues of our times, yet you relate to him as a great man? Are we so desperate for tragedy that we may seize hold of whatever happens to dominate the 6:00 news, despite whether we actually understand it, and warp into a personal fantasy intended only to satiate that twisted human desire for sorrow and melancholy? Are we that emotionally starved? There are so many other things out there worth getting emotional for. If you must dramatize then pick a real issue. |

I've met a lot of Communists that despise the Dalai Llama, and tibetan society to boot because of their social hierarchy and the fact that they have slaves. No leader/religion is perfect. I've yet to witness any kind of leader that doesn't make mistakes that can make a lot of people unhappy. The pope was not perfect, Catholicism is corrupted, it's old fashioned- BUT I see absolutely wrong with people who wish to respect a fallen leader. Did you see how many people in the world that were deeply moved by the death of Ronald Regan for fucksakes? |

I think that's his point. People all want to jump on the 'mourn the fallen figure' bandwagond, despite the horrible things he's said and done. Just like Reagan. Sure he was the 'great communicator' and won the cold war. He also presided over the invasion of panama and grendada, the iran-contra scandal, called aids a retributive plague from god for the gays, among many other things. 'Great' men indeed. |

How can they change a thing they've done after they're dead? There's nothing wrong with wanting to respect a fallen leader. |
