But milk really is a bit of a "miracle drink" in the sense that it's an incredibly cheap and abundant source of vitamins and nutrients. This can't reasonably be denied.. we've been drinking it for thousands of years and our predecessors were heavily dependent on it for nutrition in times when food preparation and storage techniques meant that during much of the year fresh fruits and veggie weren't available. In Africa today millions of people lead healthy lives by consuming nothing but milk and meat alone.

It's important to realize that there's also a huge amount of money behind the health food industry and the strength of their market is dependent on them convincing you there's something wrong with what you're currently eating.

well, not all of the vitamins and minerals in milk are naturally occuring. eg. vitamin D is fortified to help enhance the absorbtion of calcium. also, a lot of the nutrients that are found in milk can probably be already found in the meats alone, with the addition of things like iron which you can't get from milk. so my guess is, even if they didn't drink milk, they probably would have been fine anyway.

secondly, most of our world's population is actually lactose intolerant. and they have survived just fine over the years.

and lastly, I do believe human milk for humans is somewhat of a 'miracle drink' because babies can survive on that for their first 1-2 years of life. however, I don't really like the idea of drinking some other animal's milk. in all honestly, I really don't see how it's different from drinking your dog's milk.

oh, and to add on to your link, with these African people's higher resistance to malaria, some scientists will attribute this to them being a carrier to the gene that codes for sickle cell anemia, as a result of evolution.

their more robust and harder physical characteristics could also be attributed to their increased complete protein intake to build up muscle, as opposed to those who did not consume animal products and did not know how to mix incomplete proteins together. again, the increased complete protein intake can be derived from meat alone and not necessarily need milk.

at the same time, I also think it's important to know that there's also a huge amount of money behind the dairy industry, and the strength of their market is dependent on convincing YOU that milk IS this perfect, miracle drink.

i think there's a huge difference between the milk we drink today versus 50 years ago.

now cows are grain fed instead of being allowed to graze, are holed up in their pens not able to exercise, are pumped full of hormones, and after all of that, the milk is pasteurized.

try organic milk, it's a hundred times better. :)

What's even "stupider", is you arguing with Ashes for 3 pages about pasturizing techniques and hormone levels in milk products!! For god sakes, she was joking about being a MODEL, not the health manager of Lucerne Dairy Products!! Clearly, your advanced intellect within the english language puts us "stupider" people to shame. Well, at least we've got a sense of humor!!

Ashes is a smart and beautiful girl, and we don't need you knocking her down to your level. Thanks. xo

ummm, well i guess you now have the title, haha. go take grade 2 english again alright?

i'm actually not involved in any form of an arguement with her. i'm simply filling her in on a few facts she should know if she is going to be drinking so much milk. as well, believe me, i have a great sense of humour. this thread has had me and a few others i work with laughing for days now, haha.

oh and joanne you are simply awesome. well done. :]
