I need your help to feed the homeless - UPDATE!! Details added!!
I am planning on the evening of December 23rd to go out and hand out sandwiches and hot chocolate/coffee to the homeless.
There was lots of support when this idea came up last but I couldn't organize the event to make it happen. Well this year I am going to make it happen. So I am wondering if there are any of you that would be willing in helping me out with this. I'd need people to help make the food, help hand it out and most importantly... I'd like to see if anyone has connections to the food industry to see if they would sponsor some food that we can hand out that night. So if you would like to help out please post here and PM me your contact info and we'll get this going. Thanks, Winston |

I'm willing to help out for sure. I don't have any food connections unfortunately but I'll help out in any other way I can. Do you have an established date Winston?
I have my son for the holidays and I think it would be a great experience for him to come out and help too. |

I have updated the original post.
It will be the evening of December 23rd and it's a Friday so people will be done their work week. If we can't get food sponsors I'll go buy and supply the sandwich parts and I'll find a place in Vancouver where we can all get together, make them, wrap them up and go hand them out. How to get the hot chocolate ready I haven't figured out yet. |

im in! I can do whatever you need me to do, whether its prepare, or hand out food.
ill start calling around for donations for food after this weekend. A few of the crew i grew up with in kitchens now run there own place, so ill lay down the guilt trip if i have too :) shakeel lochan 604.719.7410 |

Thanks people!
Right now the primary goal is to see if any places will help with the food (bread, peanut butter, jellies, meats, cheeses), wrapping paper, cups, beverage containers/dispensers we can borrow, etc. After that getting the people together in a location for a day won't be that hard. |

i think you might find it hard to get donations of food and stuff from companies if it's not a registered charity event. i can't remember how you do it, but for all of the charity stuff i've been involved with, i needed to show the companies a letter telling them that we were legit. most of the time they want advertising as well.
are you going to walk around and hand out sandwiches or set up a table and hand it out from one location. if you have a table, you might want to contact the city and give them a heads up so you don't have any problems from them the day of. |

Whenever I head dt I stop @ the McDix and grab some cheeseboogers.
Nearest homeless on the corner or robson & Burrard gets em' You wouldn't believe the looks people give me ! People are such assholes. IMHO you should just get everyone to pitch in 20 bucks n buy 100 cheeseboogers. Bums looooooove cheeseboogers. |

I'm not going to jump through hoops to get donations. If they offer we accept, if I don't get much then I'll go buy it anyway. :) I plan to have the food and beverages made, put it in the back of a couple of cars (my own and maybe one other) and drive up a block and hand out the food, then repeat until we run out of food. Setting up a table without advance notice doesn't help anyone except those in the nearby area. And I want to feed a few people and not the same person 5 times. |

My step-father is the production manager for the shipping company that ships out all the food to each starbucks in the lower mainland! I may be able to get you food to last them a year, good food, too! And fruit! I'll look into it and see what I can do.
