Brings the issue out into the open and obviously offending promoters are noticing. Does more than people saying nothing. Maybe you'd care more if you had a daughter. |

Sure I'd care if it was my daughter, but it's not. The likelihood of a dress code at a rave is non-existant. A paying customer is just that and promoters, for the most part, can't afford to turn them away. I'm not trying to say I like it but you have to look at it for what it is.
They are going to do it anyways! I can find things a lot more worthy to make a rally cry for you know what I mean? |

Clubs have dresscodes ALL the time that people care enough to abide by and wait out all night in the cold for. So do Yoga studios! It's not going to stop people from going even with the dresscode in place.
*edit, and this thread was calling for an agelimit not a dresscode, so if people want to front like a cheap whore, at least jailbaitality doesn't ensue. Last edited by miss.myra; Dec 13, 05 at 12:22 PM. |

Come on Myra... I mean granted, it isn't the same now so much as it was in years past but the whole idea of a rave has always been anti-establishment, come as you are, do what you like... I honestly don't think you'll ever see a dress code. It's NOT a club or an established community business! It's a bloody rave party.

A legal rave with all the proper permits and police presence anti establishment? The paradox is killing me. |

Seriously, promoters have fought for years to make these events all ages. There are laws in Vancouver that state all ages events like these shouldn't happen, but as they are archaic and outdated, and they aren't enforced. If I were to turn away every girl that wasn't properly clothed to a party, then I would lose half of my paying public, and I would get trashed on the internet for being a bitch. You can't have it both ways. I have seen you post about several other parties that you went to this year that have the same demographic, and you try and make an example out of this one? I have seen various shady get ups, including a girl wearing electrical tape over her nipples, or a mesh leotard one piece body suit. Were these girls made fun of here, no. And this isn't about the money, this is about coming as you are, being who you are, and having fun as you are. This is the rave scene, it should be about acceptance. Way to go to Josh and Dave for putting on an excellent event. They took on a huge risk and an even bigger liability with it being 19+ and serving alcohol. A lot of promoters wouldn't want to take that risk. Kudos to them. But seriously eighty5, when you throw a party by yourself, and take on the risk, then you have the right to make a judgement like we don't care and it is all about the cash. ps - if you don't like it, don't go, didn't you retire 18 times already? pps- I hate booty shorts just as much as everyone, but that doesn't mean I am not going to ban them. |

Raves should have an age limit, but for different reasons than stated here. Fact of the matter is the things that go on at raves really shouldn't be exposed to the youngin's. Many just don't have the experience neccessary to deal with a number of shitfalls that could occur without prior knowledge. The reality of the situation is often far removed from the fantasy, especially when it comes to the more illicit nature of many parties. Folks figure they'll "just drop and have a lawf", without ever knowing what they're in for.
It helps when they come with folks older and more experienced, of course, but then these older folks also have a responsibilty to look out for the younger folk. As for the way they dress, what's the big deal? Sure, if you're Chubby McChubberson and where booty shorts, it looks tacky as Hell, but they're only going to set themselves up for public ridicule more than anything else. If you see someone dressed like that, do them a favor and diss the living crap out them. They'll never wear that stuff again. |

It's the same thing I said when people used to rip on candy kids... who gives a fuck!? Let them do what they do and if you don't like it... move on. That's what I do. |
