i have a 12" powerbook and have had it for a couple months and totally love it. i would never go with anything other than a mac now. i can rip a DVD onto my hardrive, encode video in final cut pro, play music on iTunes and surf the web at the same time...all without my computer slowing down at all.

whens the new proc. slated to come out? Are they even going to be in the ibooks? Like i mentioned before, im so over the "keeping up with the jones" mindset with electronics. I wait a year or so, let all the quick trigger fingers troubleshoot and act as lab rats, then im in! I need a laptop NOW!! Looks like london drugs and future shop had marginally cheaper base models, but still more expensive then what i would get at an apple only store with a student discount. But i think retail is going to be automatically higher in price, so ill investigate sfu tommorow and perhaps just order online.

Ill be doing similair work with video, running photoshop + illustrator, dl'ing off soulseek, listening to music, talking to heads on messenger, surfing the net, word processing, printing, and spilling coffee at the same time ;)

^ they could be coming out as soon as the 8th. Mac World expo in SF is where they release major announcements and the rumour sites are saying x86 processors cpu's are ready. They just don't know weather it will be a mac mini, or laptop yet. Your best bet is to hold on a couple weeks and wait for that keynote.

Be careful Apple is recalling ibook and powerbook batteries because of a security hazard issue....

pfffft waaaaaste of money bro.

We use G5's at school. It's nice and shnazzy, but seriously it doesn't even compare to the PC I got at home for half the price.
I would never drop that much money on a mac unless I was so rich to not give a fuck.

i am mos def no where close to rich, and we rock the g5's at bcit too, and i guess im kind of spoiled now. Im just so tired of using a pc, its a new year, and its time for big changes. Using a mac is just so fucking easy, and its good to switch things up. This is gonna be a big purchase, but itll be an investment, considering i use my computer everywhere and all the time, and its a large component of my design work. Hopefully the new proc, will drop the price a bit.

thankyou very much ladies! I got the dl on the recall, as a class mate of mine fried his 17" powerbook! What do you think about the refurbished powerbooks? I couldnt get to an upgrade page with them, but if i have the ability to upgrade the ram in the 15" powerbook, its might be an option? Yall know any info on the the quality of mac refurbished product historically?

:)

i dont think there would be a prob with the refurbish laptops.. as long as they come with the standard 1 year warranty. I bought my powerbook at london drugs and it was teh display model..last month the logic board died and i started seeing white spots on the screen and mac replaced the logic board and display cover all for free. Im gonna buy apple care in the new year, but the maintanence took just a little over 1 week and they were really helpful and easy to talk to. i pretty much have a brand new powerbook now.. their warranty covers most things..just not personal damage stuff.
