telus vs. shaw internet
okay, so i'm moving at the end of april and have to hook up high speed internet at my new place. just wondering what you guys think of shaw vs. telus internet.
right now i have shaw and it's good, but i wanted to hear some people's thoughts on telus. just to see if i want to switch. both plans are about 39.99/month. |

haha, i knew that was going to happen. i would end up more confused about the decision than i was before.
yeah, i heard about that monitor thing...but that's only if you sign two year or three year contract with them. i might not even be living in my new apartment in three years. probably not actually. |

it all depends really ADSL is great if you are close to a switching station further away the slower ya go, where cable you get the same speed no matter the distance though you could slow down during peak hours so on and so on. Personally I have and always will be a cable subscriber it does the house hold very well fast speeds and never any bog down times. but I would suggest getting pamphlets from both Shaw and Telus and wiegh the pros and cons yourselfe..

Tel-ASS is more lenient with bandwith overuse.
Shaw Xtreme is way faster than anything Tel-ASS has. I'm with Shaw since Tel-ASS doesn't have ADSL where I am in N. Van so they fucked me over good and I lost all my website material becuase it all got deleted because I couldn't tranfser my service. |

unless you're doing MASSIVE downloading (and i mean a lot), it really doesnt matter. apparently telus doesnt give you a cap on bandwidth or something, but im with shaw and i download a lot of movies + music as well as play games online so you can imagine the bandwidth i go through.
but yeah, either or is fine just for casual browsing and downloading. in your sitch i'd go with telus just to get free shit. |

Shaww all the way.. I got The new xtreme or w/e line .. and holy shyte its so fast. I get like 200-600kb/s downloads all the time. Ive been through shaw at one place, telus at another, shaw etc etc and Shaw I found best to deal with and this one is so much faster than any DSL line you can get. No brainer

Telus has shit for customer service.
Once I tried to call them to get a couple things done. Every time I called they'd only ever do one thing at a time. First time it was to cancel, but they instead just settled my balance and didn't bother cancelling my service. The second time they refunded me the money they charged me since I was supposed to cancel. The third time they actually cancelled my account. Their customer service apparently is great if you only want to do one thing at a time. Shaw has been a lot more receptive. Right now we're having some issues with brownouts, but it's only brownouts, never full service disconnections. Back when I was with telus adsl, we'd have the internet be down for days at a time. If you want reliable faster service (I don't care what you say, ADSL is slower) and support that's not outsourced to india, shaw all the way. |

i don't want to switch to telus and find out what you guys are telling me is true: that telus is slower. ME NEED SPEED. thanks guys. |

I have had shaw for a while now and I'm very happy. Fortunately I am able to package cable tv and internet together for about 100 bucks a month. Whenever I have any difficulty with a connection or a question regarding a bill, etc Shaw is just a call away. Telus on the other hand! I can never get through to telus whenever I call them wether it be about a business cell phone or the internet. meh.
I think that the product itself is pretty much the same at both companies. The thing to keep in mind is who provides better service and who is cheaper. Locking in with telus for 3 years would suck seeing as though they're always restructuring their company but who knows, Shaw could be in the same situation tommorow. |
