lol @ culture of entitlement. You sound just like the campaign comercials.

As for "sovereignty," the throne speech didn't even mention the artic sovereignty issues that Harper was running during election time. We have the americans, russians, and scandenavians in the north probing around and we are doing nothing about it. Instead we are fueling a hopeless war in Afghanistan. Again i'm not completely up-to-date with our troops happenings over there (because i can't get a freakin Canadian newspaper over here), but i do know Afghanistan is seeing it's worse days since the US-led invasion.

So i do not see the link for Canadian sovereignty unless you can post me a link to any update since the thrown speech on artic sovereignty initiatives.

On such items as cigarettes and alcohol.
Yes they are increasing taxes on alcohol and giving tax breaks to microbrewerys to make them more competative. Hopefully this means i can get Granville island beer for cheaper.

I do what I can!

Well at least now when you come back you'll be able to compare and contrast and who knows, maybe even have a decent subject for a Paper. :)

Broadened experience is never a bad thing my Friend. You can always brush upon your return to Canada.

Leviathan will become famous soon enoughLeviathan will become famous soon enough
"Other countries, including the United States, Russia, Denmark, Japan, and Norway, as well as the European Union, have expressed increasing interest in the region and differing claims in relation to international law. In particular, many observers believe that the Northwest Passage, the shipping route through Canada’s Arctic waters, will be open to increased shipping activity in the coming decades as the ice melts."

"Climate change is a result of the rising global temperatures associated with global warming, the effects of which have a direct impact on fragile ecosystems. It is contributing to the melting of the polar ice caps, which, many speculate, will open the Northwest Passage to increased shipping activity. There are varying estimates of the rate at which the Arctic ice is melting, but a 2004 study by the Arctic Council and the International Arctic Science Committee assessed that sea-ice in summer months has declined by 15-20% over the past thirty years.(5)"

I've got an idea, lets give a 1% tax cut where people only see the benefit on things such as cars and big SUV's. I guess it would be to logical to give bigger tax breaks on more environmentally sound practises.

Anyways, I'll give you a year or maybe two tops before you eat your words.
Remember Chretiens original campaign ? The red book? He promised to get rid of GST in 93.

The reason I joined is because my Friend approached me and said that they'd like a little right-of-centre input on some issues.

I've always been a Conservative thinker no matter what "Label" you put on it.

P.S. Fuck you People that are on the "Let's hate Bush" Trend. Read some News and you will realize that he's only the Puppet for the Republican Party.

Sweet! I think they're a bunch of religious zealots. But they have some policies I agree with.

You can't really compare American and Canadian Politics though. The American "Spectrum" is more Right Wing than ours. Even our own Canadian Conservative Party would almost be considered Centrist by there standards and our NDP would be shunned as near Communist.

True, most of my reasoning for disliking the republicans is based on the fact that I have spent quite a bit of time in the US, especially in the mid west for work. Needless to say I've been exposed to some really right wing conversations that had me holding my tongue!

I don't hate Bush b/c he's Bush.
I hate Bush b/c he's a puppet, and I hate the Republican Party.
I think most people probably feel the same - it's just reaction to blame the leader.

^ At least you hate for the right reasons.

It's because he's the tangible figurehead of the Party.

People just piss me off when they're all like "FUCK BUSH!!!!" and they have no basic grounding of the political situation in the United States or even their own Nation first.
