I thought it was pretty interesting but most of the dialogue didn't really seem challenging enough for the context.
"defend the world from mysticism and tyranny.." "Fight for country..." strictly neorealist rhetoric done so very cheezy as well. Other than that i thought the concept was great and some of the narrated scenes. |

me and my gf went and saw it in imax at west ed and the only response we had after it was over was "WOW".....we both loved it....one thing I really liked about it was that ya it was bloody but it was all tastefully done....I was expecting something more along the lines of "kill bill"-type blood with blood pumps and everything but was pleasently surprised when it wasn't.....I would highly siggest people go se it

People seem to have had no concept of history other than the movies.
Really, did anyone not know this story beforehand? Did anyone expect a happily ever after? Even if you've never read a history book, you know how it will end. The reality was grimmer. there were something like 6000 greeks, and a half million persians? I've heard conflicting reports. They survived less than a full day. But they held. They knew they would die, but they held, for a bit. The lack of a story for this movie was touted as a weak point for the movies' detractors. In my opinion, it was a strong point. Any storyline other than the one that said they knew they'd die, and held strong would be extraneous. All the setup is done and known. We know who the greeks were, and who the persians were. We know how that little battle played out. The greeks died. It was the sheer spectacle of it that is the draw. And they succeeded admirably. If you want a movie with a story, go watch bridges of madison county. If you want breathtaking cinematics, and a visceral depiction of men choosing to die rather than acquiesce to a greater force, see this movie. I was, like others, a little perturbed by the parallels to todays power struggles. I can't help but wonder if every movie hollywood pumps out is going to so overtly "support the troops". The "hoo-rahs" made me a bit queasy, but in the end couldn't really detract too much from my enjoyment of this film. I would have enjoyed it more if they could have avoided any of the current world politics. But with such strong feelings about these issues, they couldn't have avoided it with the groups involved in the 300's struggle. The dialogue used was not necessary though. Add in talk of two towers falling and you've got the military rhetoric we've had too much of already. Visually, it looks so much like the comic, it's amazing. I've always wondered why hollywood didn't take more cues from comics....they're ready to work screenplays! Highly enjoyed this film. although that headsman from the persians confused me.....ok, you're an obese inbred beast. How do they keep him from dying of infection from those blades they replaced his hands with? |

that was funny. i saw the movie last night, and it was exactly what i expected it to be. handful of guys fight against a million enemies, draw them into a place where there numbers mean nothing, and slaughter them until they are betrayed and are defeated. anyone who was expecting more than that should go read a history book before going to a movie like this. sure there were some deformed mutant looking motherfuckers and other inaccuracies, but that was all frank miller. if you have a problem with that, write him and tell him how his depiction of the battle of thermopolye is in accurate due to the characters he created for the story. im sure he will be glad to hear from you. anyway, movie rocked. id see it again if the opportunity presented itself. |
