Anyone read the graphic novel first? If so, the movie was pretty much up to par. Historically there are inaccuracies..but that's Hollywood =)
I thought it was beautiful (except for the Christ pose at the end...if you saw it you know what I mean) Actually, the end in general made me raise an eyebrow. If you are going to see this film see it on the big screen
It likely won't change your life or enhance your historical understanding ..but it is stunning to behold.
As for current politics: The Persian empire did battle at Thermopylae with Spartans - history says it was 300 vs many more (half a million I believe) The erotic nature and power hungry nature of Persia in this film seem more to me akin with current US standards while the sense of honour is more important to current Persian nations - If I were Iranian I might see this as comment on how the power hungry are toppled by their own hubris in the end and take comfort instead of being offended by a film that makes no claim to be anything other than entertainment.
