What events have you played at? Over 600 gigs, and counting. I've toured across Canada 4 times now, most recently for 17 dates in Oct 2007. Played shows in the US, and Vietnam Notable Gigs: Shambhala Music Festival Apex Music Festival Slam City Jam World Skateboard Championships Big Up Saturdays w Gman and Rizk @ Plush FWUH Anniversary Parties Circa Megaclub in Toronto Guava Anniversary Party in Nha Trang, Vietnam - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Years spinning the decks: Over 10 years - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? In my younger days I used to be the guy that always had the new tracks. I'd constantly be dubbing tapes for friends and putting them onto new songs, so DJing was a natural progression in terms of tastemaking. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What type of music do you specialise in? For many years, it was hip hop. I'd pretty much only get booked for live shows, and "real" hip hop nights. It took a while to break that mold and prove myself as a multi genre party rocker, but nowadays thats all im into. If its good, and will make people dance, I'll play it. I'm a fan of all types of good music! So now I'd say my speciality is CLUB MURDURATION! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Most expensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? I can't recall actually. Maybe the UK pressing of Blackalicious's Melodica EP. I had to wait til Bassix had their half off Boxing Day Sale to afford it - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What is your most treasured record and why? Probably my signed copy of the Odd Squad 12" 'I Cant See It'. A few years ago, my dream gig was to play a show with one of my favourite rappers, Devin the Dude. Well, that day came (and i've since played 4 shows with him LOL) and he signed the record for me backstage. He was shocked to see it. Then, I got to DJ for him. One of the best nights ever!! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Have you got any funny/horrific DJing stories? Spilt drinks, Blown Amplifiers, Shotty Festivals, Giant Festivals, Pointless Corporate Gigs that didnt really need a DJ. I'm sure theres a few stories relating to that. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What do you like the most about DJing? Making people scream, dance and sweat! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - What does your DJ name signify? Desperation! Haha, It was a last minute change when I found out my previous name had been taken by another DJ, and I needed something for a drop I was getting that night. Since then, I've established it too much to change it. By definition, it means New, Fresh and Exciting. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Who are your influences /or shoutouts? Shouts out to all the artists out there making incredible music, those that have booked me over the years, those that have bought or downloaded my mixes, and of course to anyone who's ever sweated it out on the dancefloor! Shouts to my crew, and homies around the world - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Feel free to add any additonal information about yourself BIO: It's been said that it's not what you have, but what you can do with it. Vancouver-based DJ Neoteric (Jeremiah Rusznyak) is no stranger to making something out of nothing. DJ’ing was a very natural progression for this taste-maker, as he started buying vinyl in the mid nineties and released mixtapes locally. In 2000, Neoteric launched Futility Records, a label dedicated to exposing good music to a larger audience. This saw the release of classic Canadian Hip Hop albums, and an acclaimed series of mixtapes which highlighted the best Hip Hop artists in the country. No strange to touring, Neoteric has crossed Canada many times, and has played clubs in the US, and as far away as Vietnam, with extensive touring planned for the future. Known for his eclectic style, and ability to play most any genre, Neoteric has played a wide variety of gigs, from headlining the biggest dance clubs in Canada, to rockin live hip hop shows, to large festivals, and raves. With over 650 gigs under his belt, and acclaimed tracks and re-edits to his name, there are no plans to slow down! Other notable gigs include Slam City Jam World Skateboarding Championship, The Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival, Shambhala Music festival, the Apex Music Festival, and both years of Vancouvers Rap Olympics. He has also shared the stage with legends such as Raekwon (Wu-Tang Clan), Masta Ace, Kool Herc, Lord Finesse, Maestro Fresh Wes, Lo Fi Fnk, Krames, The Coup, Devin the Dude, Aceyalone, The Living Legends, Ra the Rugged Man, Roc Raida, Mike Relm, Abstract Rude, Swollen Members, K'naan, Skratch Bastid and many many more.
