Couldn't dress myself if Armani himself was infront of me

I'm a 23 year old white woman with no sense of style.

Living in the greater Vancouver area has opened my eyes to a variety of fashion trends I never thought I'd see anyone dare to pull off.

On that note, here are a list of fashion trends I can't stand:

*Skinny Jeans (in anything over a size 5, and where the legs are SOOO separated you have to wonder if it's a human, or a cylon)
*Ballet flats (seriously, would any of you wear your slippers outside your home?)
*Ridiculously large handbags (they're the size of carry on luggage... what the hell do you ga;s put in there anyway???)
*Cell phones. (No one needs to hear "like how totally awesome that guy was" who you happened to hook up with last night on the sky train
*Purposely ripped jeans. (You know, if you want ripped jeans, buy a pair from Value Village and put holes in them yourself. But don't for one minute think you're "punk". I know for a fact you got those jeans from the GAP.)
*Dresses on top of pants. (It's one or the other people - pick one)
*Skin tight leotards (this fashion trend went out in the 80's with scrunchies and work out socks. Let the 80's die folks. Please.)

the thing about fashion is that, like music, it comes in cycles. it just so happens that womens style is more geared towards a 60's style right now and slowly moving into an 80's style

fashion in general is made up of trends. you can live in a box and do your own thing, keep up to date with current trends, or dig out your own niche and take bits and pieces from all the different trends. there's nothing wrong with any one of these so long as you dont look like you're trying too hard to impress people

trendy shit always tends to be kind of dumb, like ugg boots and LV bags, whats the point of wearing a style that every else wheres and will be dated next season? especially when you mix cheap clothes with designer.

i wish i could drop a few thousand on a Silk/cashmere blend suit with gucci knocks, hermes tie and french cuffs, or just a few nice cashmere sweaters and dress pants for a more casual look. however i can't and if i could and wore that too work id look like a pretenious asshole anyway.

hmmm. So you mentioned trends you hate. What do you see in stores that you do like? Maybe we can turn this thread around and give you some advice if you give us some info. :)

Style is about putting a little thought into your wardrobe based on what you think looks good, how you want to express/present yourself, and a little bit of current trends sprinkled on top.
