I do work full time during the week... that is my primary source of income. -- With what time is left, I work for Twisted and play out when/where I can because I love it so much! Now Funkmaster Hirshel -- that dude drives like a BMW M3... and when you don't see him at parties, he is wearing like Armani suits and all the bitches wanna get wid'him. -- After all, he is the Disco Pimp! |

1000 bucks a month net income isnt very much, i make more then that working part time less then 20 hours a week. I cant imagine very many people living "comfortable" lifestlyes as a result of their DJ'ing career. Only the the big name rockstar DJs who tour outside of their home city can sustain comfortable lifestyles through the money they earn performing at shows. Djing is largely something that people do to because they have a passion for their artwork and only a few ever manage to get rich off of it.
Personally i dont think i would want to be a professional dj like tiesto, because they are completely immeresed in such a disgusting and self destructive culture. It wouldnt be something i could manage because there would be nothing to keep me grounded. i would rather earn money doing somehtign a little more "respectable" and just party once and a while on the weekends. Also I'd imagine alot of professional dj's would be fucked when they lose their fame because they destroy their minds wiht drugs and probably squander much of their earnings so they are pretty much useless once their dj'ing career is over. thats just my negative perspective on the matter haha. |

For the most part, untill reaching the Uber trance dj stage, dj's aren't making enough to live.
Pretty much none of the locals live off Djing, cause they would recieve as much as most people do working part time at mcdonalds. Example: Dj Morgan, who is a pretty big Dj in North America, still works monday to friday. |

I can't see urself making a good living off of just Dj'ing, unless ur some trance god... But i can see dj's making a living if they did other things besides just spinning like, spinning/producing as well as doing other things in the sound industry... and being good at it/knowing the right people.

From personal experience, it is super hard to make a living off DJing!! I was doing it a couple years back when the party scene was bangin'. Back then it was a lot easier cause there were soo many parties going on. At that time I could clear $1000 easily even $2000 a month. And take into consideration thats only a dj that plays at Raves... A dj who plays at clubs, parties functions, whatever gets paid wayyy more. Lets look at someone like Vinyl Richie. He is the top dawg in this city. Im confident that he gets paid over $3000 a month at Shine on Saturdays alone, not to mention his residency at Sonar on Friday, a night up in Whistler, and what not every week. That shit adds up man. You dont have to be a super star dj to be making big bucks at djing. Just play out consistantly.
