Melatonin

I know there's another thread but I'm too lazy to dig it up

Who takes it?

Where is the best place to buy it?

Do you notice side effects?

Do you have to take it constantly for it to work, or just when you need it?

I know there's google, smartasses, but I also prefer to get people's own experiences.

i just finished off my first bottle of melatonin. i noticed that i had a slightly deeper sleep, didn't wake up as much during the night, etc. i took it when i remembered but i've read about people who took a pill nightly too.

really? that's awesome. I'm such a light sleeper and I suffer from pretty bad insomnia sometimes. I hate sleeping pills because you just don't feel right the next day, they're like zombie pills.

I find that it helps me get a full nights sleep and a basic reset on my internal clock.

I tend to use it when I'm having to do some wonky hours with work and such, but haven't used it as of late.

best shit ive ever takin.

brands dont really matter but as a rule i try not to buy generic UG lab shit.

because of my active lifestyle i have a hard time falling a sleep at night and staying asleep. Since i started taking this shit i fall asleep right away dream hardcore and wake up feeling like a million bucks every morning. In fact im usually sleeping so good i wake up an hour or two before my alarm is set to go off feeling rdy to rock :)

i take 6mg 1hour before bed.

0 side effects

any healthfood store should have it.

I get mine from the US GNC as it is stronger than the stuff they sell in Canada.

To help me sleep I take the 1mg sublingual melatonin which quick dissolves under your tongue and is absorbed into your bloodstream.

To furthur help you get back into a pattern take 200mg of 5-htp before you go to bed. Also helps you dream in Dolby Digital. ;)

I usually take it when I have trouble falling asleep within the usual 15-20 minutes, and I KNOW I need to get some sleep. Usually one does the trick but if I'm extra-alert for some reason, I'll take two for the knockout.

While I do find it does put me into a deeper sleep, I don't always exactly feel rested upon waking up afterwards. Usually I rely on 5-htp for that 'refreshed' feeling.

it's not worth buying it.

you'd be better off with 5htp (50g a day) and b6 supplements not more than 100 mg a day), plus 500 mg of tyrosine a day.

add to this rhodiola until you adapt to the upper effect and start sleeping like a baby.

avoid caffeine after 2 PM and turn the computer off before you get into bed.

because i suffer from subclinical hypoglycemia, 23 grams of Christie Thinsations always gets me sleepy after about a half hour to an hour. Goes great with a cup of hot chamomile tea!

i have consistently gotten 6 hour sleeps from using Reactine, an anti-histamine. I never take more than one 10 mg pill because of anti-histamine side effects.

My insomnia is related to high levels of histamine. I am told that the safest way to build up melatonin is daily exercise.

I used it for about a month and had zero side effects. Bad idea if you arent going to get 6-8 hours of sleep b/c you will wake up tired.

the amazing thing is, 10 mg of Reactine and i always wake up 6 hours later without fatigue.

i think once the biphenyl head of cetirizine is glucoronated, the piperidine tails are still active enough to cause hypocretin to ring the physiological alarm loud enough to wake me up.

If you have less hypocretin and its related receptors, you fall asleep and get cataleptic i.e. are unable to react to an emergency like a baby crying.

If you have more of either, then you can't sleep.

However, just enough exercise reduces hypocretin to the point where sleep is possible, BUT too much exercise before bed only stimulates, resulting in noradrenalin release.

Thus is the validity of morning exercise, especially involving not driving to work and learning how to adapt to mass transit by being early for everything.

I've used Melatonin, and it definitely loses its effects after a while. I didn't find it helped me sleep any better, but it did help me fall asleep faster. I find that after a while the 2mg pill became useless. I did try take 3x2mg pills, still nothing. I've just stopped taking it recently, so I'm hoping my tolerance drops soon.

Personally, I find that 5-HTP helps me have a deeper sleep, if that's what you're really after. If you have a changing of hours at work and need to adjust your sleep patterns, take melatonin.

Yep.

I take it 3 times a week max.

Otherwise you will build up a tolerance.

I just take it for the dreams.

I've never had that effect while taking melatonin.

If you want some serious dreams, try sleeping with a nicotine patch on.

i'm too lazy to dig up the link, but alcohol doesn't actually make you sleep better. at all. it actually has the opposite effect on people.
