Antidepressants only good for the severely depressed

Antidepressants may only be useful for the severely depressed: study

not only that but antidepressants are of no use for bipolars: Antidepressants no help for most people with bipolar disorder: study

what this means is if Britney Spears truly is bipolar, the use of seroquel and other meds is worsening her mood swings and emotional lability.

even the OTC antihistamine chlorpheniramine is more effective for getting that go-go girl to no-go.

actually, salmon oil; hempseed oil and flaxseed oil in combination with limited intake of 5-HTP and tyrosine, magnesium citrate and valerian is a more effective form of mood stablizer.

from the horses mouth. I was fucked without the antidepressant (Celexa), Zyprexa stopped working, Seroquel works like a dream.

And for the holistic approch of eating right, exercise, and suppliments like salmon oil; hempseed oil and flaxseed oil in combination with limited intake of 5-HTP and tyrosine, magnesium citrate and valerian didn't work at all.

that's that for me personaly, but at the end of the day the meds are making my life 110% better.

the big problem for sure is miss diagnosis and the hap hazard/trial and error way they go about prescribing these heavy duty medications.

This seems to be the case for most treatment of mental illnesses though. Things are still bad, but I don't think they've gotten worse.

Not even 100 years ago people were being misdiagnosed for lobotomies and electroshock therapy..... yeeeesh.

well, i have insomnia, and can go without sleep for 24 hours. i get second wind around the 20th hour. but as long as i am not stuck in my room on the internet, i am ok cos i am adverse to scrutiny by others. this is impossible online.

i've found that after taking one 10 mg pill of chlorpheniramine, i wake up with a smile on my face the next morning.

i also have a high histamine disorder, which probably worsens the insomnia.

detoxer is an unknown quantity at this point
Antidepressants Don't Work

All of us have different DNA and different metabolisms. Some herbs and vitamins work better than others. The first thing that is needed is proper nutrition and a good physical exam. As the director of Novus Medical Detox, I often see patients who are on alcohol or opioids, central nervous system depressants, also taking antidepressants. When they detox they find they don't need the antidepressants.

This is good news because a Swedish study showed that 52% of the 2006 suicides by women on antidepressants. Since antidepressants work no better than placebos and are less effective than exercise in dealing with depression.

There is a prescription drug epidemic and these are leaders in the list of terrible abuses.

ps seroquel can definitely fuck you up. i saw it happen to a friend of mine who was just an angsty teen - she was so heavily medicated that she started acting way more fucked up than i think she was aware of. antipsychotics are not helpful IF YOU ARE NOT PSYCHOTIC!!!! hah. damn psychiatrists.

"There are lies, damned lies, and statistics."

How do we know they work no better than placebos? Was there an experiment conducted that tested this? It sounds like correlational research, which unfortunately doesn't make any claims to causality. Correlations simply tell you that two factors are related, not that one necessarily causes the other. Why were the women on antidepressants in the first place? Because they were depressed. How many of these women had histories of suicide attempts? That tends to be one major reason one goes on antidepressants in the first place.

When dealing with a correlation you're looking at factor a and b. Well, a could be causing b, but it's entirely possible that b causes a, or that some factor c causes both. Depressed women are prone to suicide, but depressed women are also prone to taking antidepressants. Does that mean that antidepressants cause suicide? Tough call on that one.

Not saying that your point isn't worth discussion, but there is the other side of that type of research. Unless you started doing a study where you gave group A antidepressants and group B placebos and then observe the success rates between them you can't really say that they're worse than placebos.
