Kitten Help...

alright, so Ive got this kitten... and he is super cute and extremely playful and loves to cuddle when he is sleepy

he is almost 4 months old and his energy is getting a little out of hand... not to mention he is quite the brat! If they could diagnose A.D.H.D. for cats he would definitely be the poster kitten

anyways... when I raised my other cat there were no issues, she is a girl kitty tho (I dont know if it makes a difference). When she did something bad I would squirt her with a water bottle and she learned not to do bad things like jump on the table and climb the curtains.

THIS kitten however, is very bad it would take about 4 or 5 times for him to learn... then he started getting mad that we were squirting him, so now when I do... he goes and pee's somewhere in the house ( he is litter trained, he's just being a BAD KITTY!)

He doesn't learn if I flick his nose... he thinks its playing ( I dont really like to flick him tho I feel bad)

does anyone know of any other methods of discipline I can try so he doesn't pee on the floor ?

cant until he is 7 or 8 months... thats the first thing that came to my mind but the hospitals said that we have to wait until he is older

I know they spray when they are becoming of age or whatever, but he is apparently too young for that to be the reason

most say that dicipline in the form of pain is something that cats and dogs to really understand.

try this stuff

- Provide a box for each cat
- Change litter daily
- Provide constant access to a box
- Go back to previously used brand of litter and/or
- Discontinue new disinfectant
- Move box to where it was previously used
- Eliminate new or frightening noise near litter box
- Move food and water away from litter box
- If cat is only going in one spot, put the litter box at the exact location and gradually move it back to where you want it at the rate of one foot per day
- If there are several places, try putting dishes of cat food in those areas to discourage further elimination there
- Experiment with different textures of litter (cats prefer sandy litter)
- Use a covered litter box for cats that stand in box but eliminate outside of it

Also:

1) Pain or illness can cause a cat to stop using the litter box. Cats are very adept at hiding illness, so if your cat is having litter box problems then the first thing you need to do is take the cat to a vet for a medical exam.
2) If you aren't scooping the waste out of the litter every day then you need to start and start now.
3) Perfumes or other odors can drive your cat away from the litter box. Scented litters are unacceptable to many cats, and the leftover scent from a cleaning product could also be a problem. Get rid of the perfumes, and scrub those cleaners away before giving the box back to the cat. Remember that cats have an acute sense of smell.
4) Your cat may feel vulnerable when in the litter box. Is it in a noisy location (such as next to the washing machine)? Is it secure from little marauders like dogs and children, or even other cats? If the box is not semi-private, move it to a better location.
5) Remember those preferences that we talked about earlier. You may need to offer several different types of litter before finding the right one. Strange but true, some cats will not use the same box for urine and feces, in which case you'll have to provide two boxes. The type of box could also be a problem. If the box has a cover, try removing it.
6) Anxiety can lead to litter box lapses. Did some event scare your cat? This could be anything from a new couch to a new cat or even a new person in the house. If you suspect anxiety, confine the cat to a safe and secure place (maybe a bed room) until the anxiety has passed. Cats seem to hang on to their emotions, so the anxiety could last much longer than the actual event. No need to rush, leave that safe haven available to the cat for as long as possible.
7) If you have multiple cats, chances are you'll need multiple boxes, maybe even with different materials in them.
There is one more important distinction that you'll need to make. Is the cat refusing to use the litter box, or is the cat spraying? Spraying is a territorial behavior and has nothing to do with disliking the box. For more information on litter box problems or spraying, consult with a trained behaviorist.

take it to a vet as well.

it has nothing to do with the litter box or any of that stuff...

straight up, hes being bad... he KNOWS hes being bad, he gets a squirt of water to knock it off
whoever squirts him, he goes to something of theirs and pee's on it lol

like this morning he was being an idiot so he got a squirt, my work bag was sitting in the hall as I was about to leave, he was just chillin'

I went to grab my lunch from the fridge, come back to see him sitting on my work bag in mid pee

he only does it when we squirt him, he uses the litter box otherwise. He is just being a brat.

You're an idiot if you think the kitten is "just being bad" rather then the possibility of it actually being sick.

Take your cat to the vet, ask a professional, not a raver board.

So, did you actually READ what she wrote and what the issue is, or are you just trying to sound smart?

My cat was pretty nutty as a kitten, one day he managed to get outside and when he returned from his excursion he was a changed cat. He was somewhat calm and more relaxed. I never intended for him to be an outdoor/indoor kitty but it was in his heart.

Try giving the little guy some outdoor time if possible.

First off it's a kitten... running around and being hyper is what they do. Discipline for a kitten is useless... doesn't work. You simply need patience. GF and I have two kittens 4 months appart and they're a handfull... Both female cause usualy males are more active, and like to climb on expensive things and spray when they're older.

Peeing all over the place is disgusting. Stay on top of it or he'll piss wherever it wants. After its pissed someplace besides its litter box,,, take it to its box. take the scooper and show it how to dig. This works.

Also around 4 months they start teething again so he's probably in pain. Give is a plastic straw or a plastic chew toy to chew on. Could also explain some aggression. Cats don't say ow!

And don't spray your cat with a bottle... That's just lazy and cruel.

You're the number one reason people post ads for re-homing animals on CL. If you're not ready for the responsability. Try a house plant first.

Yeah take it to a vet also. By you're lack of knowledge of animals I'm sure you really need a professional opinion. But raising a kitten is not too bad if you know what and when to do it.

alright... first of all guys there is nothing wrong with him.

He has only pee'd out of his litter box a total of 3 times and it has been right after we sprayed him... we stopped doing it, and he is peeing in his litter box just fine so far.

I have raised a couple kittens already, and they turned out fine using those methods already
stated. The kittens were girls, so another reason I asked on here is to see if other ppl who have raised a male kitten if they experienced any of the same things.

thank you c_squared for the teething comment, thats probably why he keeps biting my other cat and making her mad

he is not sick, I just took him to the vet... a few hundred bucks later with some tests, he is fine ( he has had problems already and almost died so I am on top of that)

I have a male cat - he is 4 years old. I got him at 8 weeks, he came litter trained and got fixed at 6 months old to the day. He has NEVER gone anywhere except his litter box - if he did, I would take him to the vet. Most of the time when cats pee anywhere but the box there is something wrong. If he is spraying then get him fixed. You don't have to wait till he is 7 or 8 months old. You can get it done as early as 8 weeks - although I wouldn't do it that early. 4 months old is fine for getting his balls removed.

You also know males have more energy then females right? I trust you knew what you were doing when you went out and got yourself a kitten. I hate to say it, but you sound like someone who doesn't really know much about cats.

the vet said ( I called 2 alternative places as well as my clinic ) that they wont do it untill atleast 6 - 7 months

I did assume a male would have more energy than females, he isnt spraying he was peeing. Ive been watching him, he has already gone a few times today in the litter box

this has all taken course in the span of a week ( since we tried the water bottle method ) and he literally only has done it after being squirted. The rest of the time it has not been a problem.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, I want whats best for him, thats why I have been asking around ( and yes I asked his Dr when I went ) I was told it was typical behavior and that it could be because of illness, which has since been ruled out. And have also received info on other possibilities and things to try to get to the bottom of this.

He grew out of it though. Just keep up with the watter bottle, and when he is fixed the problem will most likely go away.

** Edit: Also be sure to give him lots of positive attention. Play with him, give him treats when he is good ect.
did you use a squirt bottle as well? or was he just mad at something else? if you dont mind my asking...
