I hope I get to stay in Canada
Well as some of you know, I'm heading up to BC very soon and I'll be visiting a good friend of mine there. But I really hope I can do more than just visit. I've been reading Canadian news for months now and talking to a lot of people from Canada online. From what I've heard I think I'll really like it there. To me it looks like Canada is becoming a more free and democratic country than the United States.
I'm not anti-america or anthing like that but I really don't like the way the government here wants to take away some our of our Constitutional rights with the excuse that it's for "fighting terrorism". It's just not fair to the American people and I don't want to live under this "wartime liberties" thing. If I stay here, I'll probably get forced to fight in a war that I don't believe in. I don't want war with Iraq. I'm not one of these warmongering Americans. I'm a libertarian and I believe in neutral foreign policy. I agree with Canada's position of not wanting to participate in the war and I'm sick of lunatics like Pat Buchannan who call Canada "Soviet Cankistan", and "a safehaven for terrorists". I really hope Canada stays smart and doesn't get into this war and I don't think it will happen because I don't think Canadians are that dumb. Also, getting a job and doing anything here is hard because the economy is bad and all the President wants to do is go to war. I think I would have better chances in Canada because you can probably get more done when you can actually talk to the people and they get to like you. But I'm not just going there because I think I'll have a better life. I like the people from what I've heard and I think it's one of the best places on earth to be. I really want to be there with you. I hope when I get there, the people I meet and even the government will understand what I mean and let me stay and find some way to make a living there. I've only read about it and talked to people about it but I do trust that Canada will give me a fair chance. When I get there, maybe I'll try writing a book or some articles about this. Wish me luck and I hope to see some of you soon :) Also, let me know if you have any suggestions. |

canada's definately a great country to live in, but don't get your hopes up... one of the reasons why canada might seem like such a great place to live (from an american's perspective) is because they don't teach you much about canada in the american educational system.
i love this country to death, but our government is far from well-represented. and just because you leave the US, doesn't mean you'll escape them or their foreign policy... america will keep pushing their wonderdrug ways until the whole world is living "the american way"... wtf am i talking about ... get the hell out of there as soon as you can. |

With legal decriminalizing weed and other issues like that, there's no guarantee they'll do it but at least they seem to care about the opinions of the people as opposed to here where all that matters about that is what the President and "Drug Czar" have to say. |

Well I wish you the best of luck in your attempts to move into this great country. This truly is one of the best places in the world to live even if you do get whiners who still insist on searching for problems. We're far from perfect here but bottom line is its a great place to live your life.
Moving here won't necessarily be an escape from war though. Granted you won't get drafted into a war you don't believe in but canada will most definitely run along like an obedient lap dog to the US demands. It's like a big brother routine and our gov't is afraid to say no because we're afraid of Bush and his war monger attitude. Or maybe I should say Bush Sr's attitude. Everybody knows that Dubya is fighting his daddy's war. albeit at least we'll go along on ore of a peace keeping regime than anything else because everbody also knows that Canada has almost no real army to speak of. Either way, I hope you get what you're looking for up here. I admit that I have a major anti-american sentiment, but thats becasue most americans I've ever met have been small minded, ignorant, and rude. Most but not all.... I have a few friends from the States who are great people... who knows maybe you can be one of those! :c-tard: |

Walkin: if you want to be able to just go back and forth, you'd probably just be better off getting a green card and keep Canadian citezenship. With a green card, you can stay in America as long as you want. |

could be tough to get citizenship here if you are american, good luck tho. we tend to give citizenship to people from poorer country's or if the person has al0t of money or if they have a special skill. you get a certain number of points based on differant things, you can take the test online i think

i cant really agree with you, not because i think you're wrong, but i've never lived in the states. the longest i've been down there was like 3 days :P but from my experiences in canada, its a pretty dope place to live. what i dont understand is why they singled you out of the whole crowd on the bus at customs (i checked out that other thread). did they give you any reason why they were such dicks to you?

I miss Canada so much I can't sleep thinking about it. I just wish I was there still there. Some people there were telling me I should just stay illegally but that scarry so I left. Almost everone I talked to said, "Don't go back through the boarder." I wish I didn't. It's so boring and depressing here now. I swear, if I get to go again, I'm never leaving no matter what.
