~*~Choosing a School~*~
It has been such a stressful past few weeks for me and things aren't getting any better...*sigh*
It's been a stressful time for me deciding on which Culinary Arts school to attend? I have 2 choices VCC OR DUBRULLE VCC is a lot cheaper...12mnth program...Dubrulle on the other hand is the TOP..#1 Private Culinary Arts school in CANADA! BUT is only 4mnths!! Both sides has it pluses for me...VCC being cheaper...Also it's 12 mnths which gives me 1whole yr to learn and stuff...Dubrulle is only 4mnths! I'm kinda scared what happens if I don't pick it up fast enough and lack behind? 4mnth's isn't much time considering it'll cost me over $10 GRAND!!! One side of me is saying...Peter don't you wanna challenge yourself? In that sense YES I wanna go to Dubrulle for the challenge and get to be taught by some of the worlds best...Also going to Dubrulle cause it's such internationally known will prob GUARANTEE a good job placement afterwards... *sigh* So much to think about...I've lossed sleep over this issue too...Cause a decision has to be made... Those of you guys who are serious into school...How did you guys choose which school to go to and are you happy with your choices and what not? |

is the place outside of granville island any good? (i dont even know the name)
i love walking to school everyday, seeing the school...pausing and thinking "fuck art school i wanna cook and be able to make those fancy cakes and make money for it". hehehe i have a friend at VCC right now..and she's the biggest dumbass.. i duno. from what ive heard VCC is a great program, but of course... the other school sounds a lot concentrated..and it WILL be worth the price. i think just like art school.. it doesn't matter exactly school you go to, its ure own ability, creativity, and experience that can get you somewhere in the future. whatever school you choose..GOOD LUCK! mmmmmm food. |

well if you wanna succeed in the culinary arts it really seems like its one of those industries where it helps to know people.... especially being noticed by respected chefs who are looking for apprentices, and having ALOT ALOT ALOT of friends who like the food you cook for them.. the training at a school would be cool though.
at my work we've got both vcc and dubrille grads. both schools seem to offer good programs cuz they're all dopeass cooks. but i'd go for dubrille. i'm sure the people you are going to be working with are masters of the field (french?). and i'm sure the people you are going to be learning with will be alot more dedicated to the big money theyre putting in (hopefully) besides what kinda cuisine are you gonna be studying? there cant be just a simple 4 month program eh? there has to be longer programs depending on the area you're going to be looking into? damn i wish i could be a chinese cuisine MASTER! getting fresh alaskan king crabs, lobsters, abalone and cooking em up for royalty, chinese style.. hawwww DAMN that would be SOO FUCKIN COOL! haha but i'm not chinese and i only know swear words so i dont think that will ever happen. haha |

VCC hands down. It rocks. All you're paying for at Dubrulle is the name and a pre-madonna attitude. From what I hear it's not as hands on. They're more about showing you then letting you do it you're self. The Chef's are really good here. A whole buch of them are or were on the Canadan Culinary Olyimpic team and have a bunch of gold medals. As far as getting a job after the 12 months are up, if you're a top student the school will do it for you. They save all the big hotel and really good jobs for their best students. VCC students do not have a hard time finding work......trust me. Plus, a lot of the big places to work call up the school when they need someone. So anyway, if I were you I'd for sure go to VCC.

And did you know that VCC has an Asian foods course too. Some of the guys in my class are gonna take it after we grad so they'll have both. The Asian kitchen is crazy. They have all this cool stuff that I would have no clue how to use. |
