Seeking job advice.
I've worked for my uncle for 3 years now testing herbal medicine, but it gets old after awhile. I have a full time job I do every summer, but this Christmas Im in desperate need of a change.
Im hoping to get "out there" and find myself a secure part-time job. My resume is pretty good, but I tend to get nervous when applying at different places. So Im hoping those who have done the whole "job journey" and actually were successful, could give me some advice on what employers are looking for. Dont get me wrong, I've had my experiences but im just looking for a little elderly advice. it would be most appreciated. thanks Charlene |

Ask for the manager when you're dropping resumés off, just to make sure they know of you. At my work when people don't ask to speak to the manager their resumés just get piled up onto a stack and nobody even looks through that.
Print out a lot of resumés and drop them off wherever. Don't just apply to places where you really wanna work. Just go for anything. Last summer I dropped off like 50 resumés and only 2 or 3 places called me back. Ummum...that's basically the important stuff I know of. The rest is just common sense (be nicely attired/firm handshake/eye contact/no gum/clear speech/politeness/etc.) And if kissing ass isn't that big of a deal to you, after the interview a Thank-You note kinda helps too. |

Check it:
How I got to work at Trueview Rendering and Animation, Tommy hilfiger, and now Masterplan Productions: I know this might sound strange but: when you apply for a job, drop lots of resume's off, and then when you get a call back, or an interview; sound exited. The technical term is: sell yourself to the person who is hiring you. He/She needs to know that you are a good person for the job. Be enthusiastic, even at the little things. DONT be giddy, take a professional side with the employer. Try to give them something they have not seen before: Example: At Tommy Hilfiger, I had an interview with the toughest gay guy EVER!!!! He was ruthless in terms of trying to get people embarassed. He asked questions like: I walk into a store; sell me something. Right now. I made a skit out of it all, and I made him get up, and act it out. I was pointing to the blank wall, and selling him an imaginary jacket. Crazy huh>? Hired me on the spot. Hope it helps. |

one thing people forgot to add ALWAYS SMILE :d:d:d:d:d:d:d:d and if the interview is in retail or something where they show you inside the store and there is a customer waiting to be served chat up the customer and reccomend some items. ju will score big yar.
and always call the employers back after about 1-2 days asking if they have had time to read through your resume and if the position is still open and always always always note your availabilty...employers like it when ur available 24-7. |
