Many people these days want to get through highschool becuse they want to persue a good career after, although some people just dont feel the need for school and leave.
I think that the drop out rate is slowly getting demolished. Nat many people are wanting to leave because of their future. Me, im still in school, unfortunatly |

^^ I agree. Highschool is probably the easiest feat to overcome in life. If you can't get past that...your future is pretty limited. Also, most people who drop out find it incredibly difficult to go back once they've passed the age of 19 (I've noticed...).
Be cool. Stay in school. *Jen* |

A good friends of mine dropped out in grade 10. He works construction and makes $19/hr. I'm still in school (bCit)and not even close to making that much.
I don't think you necessarly need your diploma unless your wanting to get into post secondary schools full time before your the age of 19. He's now at BCIT as an apprentice...by the end of the year he'll be making about $25/hr+... I personally think dropping out of school is stupid-but it DOES work out for some people... |

It depends on the kind of work you want to do too. If you're fine with construction or physical labour then you might be able to get by without. But still, you won't find anyone that holds the fact you finished highschool against you... its easy, so just finish. Hell, I wish I could go back to highschool...

people always know someone who's a drop out and making good money, but the chances of that actually happening are slim. just the fact that you graduated highschool increases your chances of getting a good job, and the higher your education is the higher the chances of you getting a good job are. plus the chances of moving up in the world if you're a drop out are pretty slim.. this isnt intended to knock your friend tease, 19/hr might sound good now, but if he/she's still making that amount at age 30 then there's something to worry about

Well, let's put it this way.
I'm a highschool drop-out, but definitely not the average one. Most people drop out because they hate school, find it's too much work, or they're just lazy, etc. I dropped out because I was bored to TEARS with all of my classes, I was getting straight As and only going to MAYBE two full days of classes per week. I figured, why the hell am I wasting my time doing this for when I could be working full-time? So for the last two and a bit years I've been working full-time, and I've found that I feel much more fulfilled than I did when I was in highschool. However, I am on the waiting list at VCC to write my GED so that I can go straight into College, rather than waste my time completing useless highschool classes. (Useless for me = could be very useful for others.) I guess I'm definitely the opposite of what most people see a highschool dropout as.......then again, when I dropped out, I never had any intentions not to go back to school, I just didn't want to be going to school at the time. |

School is dumb, but I still put up with it. All the academic course are stupid and pointless. For example Math 12....I don't see people using grids in everyday life except maybe if your an engineer or something...or like a animation designer...other than I personally do not see why there is math 12. Algebra...lol are you really going to use that in life? Take the time and think about it. The school system has been pathetic throughout these 5 years I have been going to school. For socials...for sure it was interesting...gave me a bit of background from where I came from but do i really care how MOUNTAINS FOR...or how earthquakes happen? Not really because when it happens it happens. I won't think about when two plates crash together...they might slide underneath blahblahblah. It's all dumb stuff if you ask me.

^^ perfect example why you should stay in school
school, ESPECIALLY highschool, is not meant to teach you job ready skills that you'll be applying in everyday life.. its meant to encourage your brain to develop and think in different ways. for example, critical thinking (what dlo displayed, or there lack of)... subjects such as math in school dont just teach you worthless stuff you wont ever use ever again, they help your brain develop problem solving skills that you WILL need throughout your entire life.. you just dont realize it because its such a slow process |

Theres alot of high paying jobs that either require intensive and very dangerous labour, or mind and intelligence labour. Whatever you wanna do is up to you... i know loggers and miners make a killer working up in the yukon or some shit but people die and get badly injured on the job all the time... and you're in the middle of nowhere breathing in fumes and sawdust all day. So unless you wanna live in an igloo you might as well stay in school, go through the pain and get paid for your brains not your physical labour. |
