My mom slapped me once when I was 16 - I slapped her back, harder, and that was the last time she ever tried violence with me. We've had a rock solid relationship ever since I stood up to her and made her realize that she needed to let go of the "child" Natalie and accept "adult" Natalie.

i just wanted to state that I moved out when I was 16-17 years old... and I turned out alright :) (ok, so I think, lol)... It's not impossible, and it wasn't even that bad. I LOVE living on my own, but then I was always a little independent. And I was also very mature for my age... but still, it is possible.. I worked through highschool and paid rent and all my bills... I didn't do as well as I COULD have done in school, though, but that wasn't really because I lived on my own but because I was lazy and hated school and loved my bf too much. Anyways, the point is that if she is mature and wants to get away then I totally support moving out... I used to hate my parents, and then I when lived on my own I realized that they are OK, we just needed our seperate space.
