Kinda but not quite. As previously said, nonverbal communication is glorious. If it's becoming an issue, yeah, hash it out in the open. But if you can explain something without saying a word it's usually going to have more effect on the person you're explaining it to.

This is why leading by example is so effective.

Personally, I find when my more introverted friends DO speak up and say something verbal, that is usually fucking perfect. And very much exactly what i need to hear, even if im not prepared to hear it.

Sometimes all that blah blah blah that i'm so accustom to can be simplifyed into a very compact responde. It is almost more effective.

Silence is golden, and often a sign of comfort.
On the distress lines, matched silence is encouraged.
There is so much that can be converyed withouit a single word because sometimes there are no words esp. when trying to convey feeling.

See! exactly!

Coming from a person who is a 'closed book' most of the time I think that also you can't just wait for us to open up...you have to really initiate something in order for us to open up. If you want us to talk about something, chances are we're thinking about it and we will talk about it, but SPEAK UP! You can't just give hints and expect us to know that is what you want us to say right? Come out and be direct, because I know that I won't talk about things a lot of the time, but if someone brings it right out into the open, then I'll spill my guts.

I know it should be a given that someone should be able to tell you want them to open up, but us robots aren't always that smart.

Well, it's just that whole trust thing.

Trust that you'll actually hear what they have to say.
Trust that you won't abuse private information.
And, perhaps most importantly, trust that you might even have a solution to why one has bottled-up feelings.

Of course, that kind of trust can usually only be found amongst the most intimate of friends, family, and relationships.

i think we should recruit our silent friends as new york crime family mafias.
so if they get busted by the feds, we kno they won't talk
and we won't have to kill them.

I guess what I was getting at is the fact that you can't really "show" your feelings when you're not in person, which is why it was frustrating!

I know what it's like to be far away from someone who is dear to you, and it is even worse when they are the type to show how they feel rather than say it when you're pretty much maintaining a relationship over the telephone.

If it really means something, then just be patient. All of this frustration will pay off in the end!!
