Chilliwack Heritage Park; New home or lost cause?
With the Plaza of Nations on last legs, now is time to peer into the future of our scene and find where to house massives. The PNE (although nice and close to home) just is not a practical solution.
Twisted opened a very valuable can last October 31st. The Chilliwack Heritage Park in use for the first time to house a massive. Mixed feelings and thoughts were abundant afterwards; although, the general consensus was good. I have been engrossed in this exact conversation with many Ravers and production types. The most interesting of all points was a reflection between Vancouver and our American counterpart Seattle. Someone had mentioned that although there are massives in SeaCity, party goers from in town (and around) would not hesitate to carpool around the state to hit that massive wherever they could. The same cannot be said for majority of us VanCity type. Maybe just not of yet. With the closer of our late great Plaza, we (as a scene) will need to begin to discover what else our great Province has to offer. Indoor and outdoor alike, it's time to shake off the ordinary and spark some new life. That said, my poll brings forth the Chilliwack Heritage Park into the light of FNK. .mYles |

i almost choked to death on dust. cement floors, or dirt or whatever is not a good surface for a rave
despite the killer acts at spooky, that was the worst rave ive been to. i was sick for 2 weeks of a respitory illness. i will never go to a rave there again. |

I didnt mind the venue it was so big! lots of unused space for potential. I didnt take the shuttle. But if i were to go to future parties there, I think a shuttle system would need to be in effect to get more people there. from what I heard it worked well at spooky.

it would be an alright venue in the summer... i wasnt a big fan of having 3 stages right beside one another... when you were listning to a trance breakdown or a house break down all you could hear was dnb from next door... maybe a different set up would be better... im partial to this venue... its a bitch in the winter *spooky burrrrrrrrr* and its not the comfiest place but i guess we were all spoiled by plaza and its theater and escalators and carpet

To add again...
I liked the venue for spooky cause it was in a barn and it had kinda a spooky feel being a little further away from van. But im not sure if I would want it to be the next plasa! c'mon there must be somthing else out there!!!-that is closer and more convienient for the majority of people going. |

its not so much the drive , ......well the drive doesnt help but its the actuall venue, like some people said, stages WAY too close, its a barn and a few peeps i party with are elergic......and it was way to damn cold, all in all, i just dont like that venue as "the next big thing"

I don't like the idea of having a new 'home' at all. No matter what it is.
It's really too bad that the bylaws prevent usage of so many large sized venues in the various cities of the lower mainland. We could have a huge variety of spaces if things lightened up a little. But like that's ever going to happen! I'm just going to sit back and wait for the summer. POPKUM HERE I COME. hahahaha. |

teh stages definately need to be set up differently..and from what i remember there are more rooms in that huge building. a few layout changes and temperature changes and i dont mind trecking out there. i was so freakin bloody cold at spooky. i definately see potential in that spacious building.
i can see a seattle productioned party in a venue like that. |

Vancouver ravers were spoiled with having such a nice venue such as the Plaza of Nations
What most need to understand, is that all over North America, most parties are in big warehouse such as The Chiliwack Hall. I guess people need to make a choice. The choice is either go to Raves in Chiliwack or see big parties as very rare The Chiliwack Hall has a lot of potential. It has a Capacity of 10 000 people. That means if promoters could see that they'll get enough people that means there could be HUGE acts come through there. One of the reasons we don't see really huge acts at the Plaza regularly is because the capacity is so small compared to the expenses. Also keep in mind that......Yes Spooky was cold but it was also record setting temperatures that week. Oct 31st is rarely that cold |
