OK THIS HAS TO BE SAID AGAIN!!!!!! I AM SO TIRED OF HEARING PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SOUND IN THE MAIN ROOM AT THE PLAZA OF NATIONS. CAN I PLEASE MENTION THIS SO THAT ALL THE PROMOTERS OUT THERE CAN BE LEFT ALONE. THE SOUND LEVEL IS READ IN DB (a) and DB (c) NOW THE POLICE AND FIRE MARSHALL HAVE DB METERS. THEY CONSISTANTLY ARE TAKING READINGS THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. NOW THEY DICTATE TO THE AUDIO TEAM WHAT LEVEL OF SOUND IS ACHIEVED. THIS IS BASED NOT ONLY UPON THE PLAZA OF NATIONS BUT ALSO THE SURROUNDING AREAS. IF THE AMBIENT NOISE THROUGHOUT THE AREA AND ALSO OVER BY SCIENCE WORLD IS AT A LOW VOLUME THEY MAKE THE SYSTEM QUIETER WHEN THE AMBIENT VOLUME OUTSIDE THE VENUE IS LOUDER THEY ALLOW THE SYSTEM IN THE PLAZA TO BE LOUDER. THIS SUCKS BUT IT IS THE CITY'S WAY OR NO WAY AT ALL. THERE IS UNFORTUNETLY ABSOLUTLY NOTHING THE PROMOTER THE VENUE OR THE SOUND COMPANY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THEY ARE AT THE DISCREATION OF THE CITY. IT THIS WAY OR NO RAVES AT ALL.................SO TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT COMPLAIN ABOUT AUDIO LEVELS IN THAT VENUE DIRECT YOUR COMPLAINTS TO THE CITY AND NOT TO THE PROMOTERS THE VENUE OR THE SOUND COMPANY. BASICALLY DO NOT COME ON MESSAGE BOARDS TELLING PROMOTERS THEIR SOUND WAS TOO QUIET OR COMPLAIN TO THE VENUES BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF EVERYONES CONTROL. TO EVERYONE ELSE IN HERE I AM SORRY TO SOUND SO RUDE BUT I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE THINKING IT"S THE PROMOTERS/VENUE/SOUNDCOMPANIES FAULT. IF EVERYONE WHO COMPLAINED CAME TO CITY PLANNING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEETINGS INSTEAD OF JUST COMMING OUT AND PARTYING THEY MIGHT UNDERSTAND THE UNDER LYING STRUGGLE THAT EVERYONE TAKES ON TO GIVE YOU A KICK ASS PARTY. THIS CITY IS BY FAR THE HARDEST CITY TO GET ALONG WITH IN NORTH AMERICA. HAVE A GREAT TIME AT THE PARTIES AND REMEMBER SUPPORTING THE SCENE DOESN"T STOP AT JUST GOING TO PARTIES. THAT IS JUST THE BEGINING.
NOW THAT IM HATED IM OUTTA HERE. G |

Proper setup, tuning and sound checking can make all the difference in the world to the main stage.
At Simple 6 the main room sound was solid. Clear highs, punchy midbass and solid sub bass. Props to Kraig and Precise for the final sound checks that day. If every massive could have had their sound tuned like that I don't think anyone would be complaining. It's this great sound at one party and mediocre at another that drives me nuts at times. |

Vancouver db restrictions are often what hinder the sound quality at the plaza, especially that location since ambient noise levels fluctuate all the time there. This has the sound tech working overtime constantly adjusting input and output levels to stay within the restrictions, on top of that dj's are changing every hour or so and no two djs work a mixer the same way.
As for the systems sounding "clean" a sound tech can only do so much if a dj isnt monitoring his levels, staying out of the red to prevent distortion and not tweaking the EQs properly. And showing up with dirty records. Clean your vinyl before you play!! And use good needles, i dont mean some thirty dollar shure SC35's either, or even M447's. M447's are great for scratching because of their weight and have loud ouput, but suck for achieving a clean/clear sound on any sound system. I swear by my modified Ortofon Pro's. Since there are quite a few djs out there that dont understand how the mixer signal is processed and amplified and what needs to be done to achieve a clean sound....you'll end up with shit coming out of the speakers. |

Ok people I will explain a little about audio too you........In a standard set-up in the main room they usually have the Dj mixer signal sent to another sub mixer then through a whole wack of proccessing and delay systems then amplified to the speakers and then you have sound in the main room. (A little more complicated than your home stereo) Alright now that you know this I'm sure that you can understand that if the Dj at the begining of this big audio chain sets his mixer up so that it's sending a distorted signal...guess what happens......anyone......that's right it goes through all the equipment and comes out of the speakers distorted. For anyone that really wants to notice the difference try taking a walk by the Plaza of Nations usually the day or afternoon before an event when the sound companies in there doing sound checks. That system rips the roof off the building and it's crystal clear even outside the venue which leads a normal person to belive that the sound is a direct result of other people who do not know basic audio rules/guidlines. And as for Kraig it is my understanding that it was his tinkering at the last Rave that caused blown up equipment and also damaged amps. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you really do not know what you are doing don't try and be the hero without the right knowledge first. LEAVE IT TO PEOPLE THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. For all the people out there wondering who the hell I am let's just say an audio technician that's been around and can tell what the hell the difference is between bullshit and reality.

Simple 6?? That was the worst set-up ive seen in the plaza for the small rooms!!
I did however make a trip down to the plaza for TWISTED at 4pm to limit the mixer in the BC room at %50. Taped down the master with a metal strip so no fuckers would take it off... There was no way that that mixer was giving a distorted signal the whole night my friend.. Also the amp was blown even before the sound checks cause I was there once they switched on the mains for that room. They did not bring in a new amp like they said they would and just bridged the sound for the subs off 1 channel. Not cool. Also, whoever set up the speakers in the BC room mindlessly forgot to secure the tops to the bassbins and 3/4 way through Dabblers set they vibrated their way off and smashed to the floor which ripped the plugs right out of the speaker.. Professionals should know better... PS, You have no right accusing Kraig of blowing up equipment or damaging shit when you have no idea of the nights events.
