it's a fact, people who mosh at clubs aren't being considerate of those around them - your right, it's OUR scene, so people who want to dance up front & enjoy the music shoudn't be oppressed by a few amped-up dudes who feel the need to smash into each other I'm all for the rowdy vibe but there has to be a line - i've seen too many girls & smaller guys get hurt at rock shows, i know i don't want to see that at a jungle show. I quit going to rock shows 'cause of all the sweaty, shirtless jocko-homos who populate the mosh-pit - LOTS of people will be turned away from dnb shows if it turns into that kind of scene. ps - i didn't 'get the wrong impression from your posts', i was dancing up front w/ my girl when Diesel dropped Slayer. All we could do was roll our eyes & laugh, but i won't be laughing if this becomes a trend at dnb shows. If i see shit get out of control at a show of mine, i'll be calling security to eject the chumps who start it up. no joke. *ed- just to claify so i don't come off like a complete tight-ass: a little slammin like at POTD is just fine with me... my point is, i don't want to see it escalate to the point that there's a full on mosh pit at dnb shows. i've seen it in Seattle, so don't tell me it couldn't happen. that's all. Jungle & Punk Rock are both musics that spawned in the UK and both have taken their share of influence from the large West Indian community in England. Punk's Jamaincan influence is clearly visible in bands like The Clash, or The Specials. And the influence on DnB is even more evident in the live performances, ie the MCs appropriated Kingston slang (Boh, selekta, big up, murdah) and the DJs rewinds.
so to say jungle came from punkj wouldn't be quite right, but they both have their roots in the UK's immense musical melting pot. so there is a relationship. :smoke1: |

Thank you Wood for voicing that opinion...
The violent "moshing" is my nemesis at jungle shows...i am tired of having to push other guys or tell them to back off after they knock one of my ladies or myself around My first impression upon walking into sonar and seeing the dancefloor was shit! I better lace up kickers and put away my flipflops...the agro vibe of dancing so violent you frighten other people around or actually jit them..is not one i or others who have expressed their concern to me enjoy... I know i'm no angel and enjoy flailing around too but if i knock someone i generally have the respect to either apologize or back off...or take it outside As for the comment about this " mosh=i-ness" scaring off the ladies...it is soo true...why are so many jungle parties sausage fests?...of course we got tons of gals who don't mind rocking it with the boys hardcore...but lets try to keep space for the other gals who got some sweet moves and want to watch the DJ-ing (yay for the cute girlie in the bandana who was insanely jiving in the front half the night!) p.s spikes on caps literally scare me. p.s.s the nipple piercing flashed that night made my day. |

We tried to start this shit at POUND @ The Palladium 4 years ago and people looked at us like we were fucking aliens. It doesn't surprise me in the least that people might want to try it now. Moshing is a form of expression, like any other type of dance. Yes, it can be inconvenient for those who wish to be as close to the stage/act/DJ as possible without getting into "the pit", but I don't think it's fair to paint moshers or moshing in a negative light based solely on this premise. Moshing and mosh pits have rules and they have culture. Some of my best memories, in terms of the primal human experience, stem from my time in a mosh pit. The most obvious of which would be the "cleansing of the id" that one achieves after a good sesh. On a higher human level, how better to re-inforce the unity of mankind than to have a circle of frenetic freaks clear around you the second you "go down" only to have some stranger reach out an arm and hoist you back to your feet amongst the mayhem? If I had seen this shit going on at POTD I would have been right there innit. Last edited by SPK; Jun 15, 03 at 01:20 AM. |
