To those of you who are emailing me about the cancellation please read ...
I felt it necessary to post an article summarizing the lack of respect and professionalism I was treated with by Evolve Entertainment. Several months ago their director, Attila, contacted me to play at their show on Sept 3rd. After reducing my rate by over 50% and agreeing to cover the hotel myself to help them save costs Attila confirmed the booking and requested my rider. Over the next 2 months I turned down 3 major shows for the same date, one including Marco V, Blank & Jones and Anne Savage here in Edmonton. After confirming a 3rd time with Attila I requested the Flight Itinerary which was conveniently delayed several times. As the party was over a month away I let it slide for a few more weeks. On requesting the Itinerary again Attila responded with a quick email explaining they had cancelled my booking as a result of a restricted budget. As frustrated as I was that i'd gone out of my way to reduce my rate and turn down other shows, I let the situation slide and wished them the best. Having heard of the cancellation my booking agent contacted them to inquire as to how they would confirm 3 times and spontaneously cut an artist who'd cut his fee in half, agreed to cover the hotel, and cancelled 3 other shows. An excuse about the flight costing over $1000 from Edmonton to Vancouver was put forth which was quickly quashed after showing Attila the $300 rate from westjet. The booking was now back on with a contract put forth outlining the details. Attila's partner Gary took over the booking while he was on holidays and agreed to forward the security deposit on several occasions. After numerous promises and weeks passing by, Evolve Entertainment failed to provide a security deposit as promised by the contract put forth. Having faith that Attila would return and have it forwarded, I booked 2 additional tickets for my lady and a friend to join me in Vancouver. My agent contacted Attila yet again to check on the status of the deposit and they cancelled the booking AGAIN. More budget issues yet again were put forth. No genuine apology, No phone call. Just a cheap email showing the cancellation. Ironically my entire fee + flight would have cost them only 12. REGULAR TICKET HOLDERS.. I felt it necessary to let everyone know that Evolve Entertainment is by far the most unprofessional, disorganized and disrespectful organization I've ever dealt with. I sincerely hope my experiences with them will help prevent future artists and booking agents from dealing with them. Evolve Entertainment -> http://www.evolveentertainment.ca/ Feel free to email your concerns, complaints or comments to [email protected]. I do apologize that I will not be in Vancouver. To those who are emailing me, we'll try and get something setup again soon. -- Kris |

Dear Kristoff,
Your entire booking was going to happen because your agent is a very good saleslady, and with her pressure tactics and tough negotiation skills I finally said fine, lets do it. I was not booking you because everyone here was asking for you, in fact I don't know too many people who have heard of you, despite the fact that you might be top ten on the djlist. However, to my surprise at the city meeting, the afterhours committee announced that we needed to hire extra police, and a new security company who in total means an extra $2500 of added expenses to the existing budget. In order to meet our bottom line and ensure ticket prices are not $200 at the door, we had to make some tough decisions, part of which included removing our laser contractor who travels from the US, and costs us around $2000, and also cut some talent from our lineup to meet our budget for this event. We had the choice to cut Brooklyn Bounce, or Dj Kristoff.. and no offense or anything but most of the hype around this show is because of Brooklyn Bounce. Call us unprofessional, call us unfair, but with the evergrowing licensing costs that we have to meet now-a-days to throw a party, we have to watch our budgets. And that sometimes means having to cut DJ's, headliners, attractions, crazy decorations, and so on. I am trully sorry this is not working out, if we wouldn't have been slapped with this insane increase of policing/security costs this wouldn't have happened. -Attila@Evolve Last edited by Evolve; Aug 19, 05 at 12:10 AM. |

anyway, i understand your frusteration about this, and although i dont fully agree on everything attila stated, he does make some good aguments about the finacials of his party. i know it sucks, and no one like to be there, but you where the smallest on the food chain for this event. ive been there before and i know it sucks, maybe not at this magnatude, but thats the industry Last edited by klockwize; Aug 18, 05 at 04:53 PM. |

I agree with klockwise, you must be crazy (or lying perhaps?) if you turned down shows with any 1 of those aforementioned headliners!! Honestly, I don't know anyone in their right mind who would turn down shows with any of them, whether they enjoy that kinda music or not.
And just cuz Attila's not kissin yer ass doesn't give you the right to bash him on every online forum you can find. My 2 cents. And come to think of it, Anne Savage was just in Edmonton not that long ago so there's almost no way in hell she'd be back so soon. Last edited by baby-phat; Aug 18, 05 at 05:00 PM. |

From a dj's point of view... why would you drop an event with 3 headliners that you can use for some good contacts in the end...for a party in Vancouer that is being held in a venue obviously smaller than the one used for 3 International headliners.
As a company rep, it may be easier to throw parties there, but Vancouver lately has been stacked with ridiculous requests from the city, at an inflated price compared to last years quotes too. |

There there Nedra... if I were to get booked then suddenly 2 weeks before the date get cancelled... I would be pretty choked too. But what confuses me the most, even with an explanation about rising costs from the man putting on the show, the bookee decided to post this publicly on his website, which spread to various other Canada wide public forums. That is seen as unprofessionalism from my point of view, if you essentially wanted to say were unprofessional, then you couldve done what I wouldve done, kept it off of public forums and let the bad word spread like a virus. With all that said of course, lets compare costs.
A dj getting booked and going to play at a party: 0$ unless you decided to spend money on the way. Getting a rave put together so its succesful in the end: Your nerves and a good 20,000-30,000 Grand invested. Now understand, you getting cancelled is just one slip on a hike to the top, youll get plenty more chances to get booked in Vancouver, we were considering bringing you back for our upcoming show, but with this display of... being childish, I dont think that will happen anymore. If anything I was the one that gave a thumbs up to Attila when he asked me about you... you should thank di.fm for playing your mixes that I enjoyed, and that I even knew of your name. This in no way will change my (or others) outlook on your skill and production quality becuase you are well on your way, just like many other young producers in Canada (TFT, which your most probably familiar with, is one of the many untapped talents waiting to get discovered.) Good Luck on your Future Endeavours. -Ben [Evolve - Promotions/DJ] |

Perhaps the two of you should have worked out a cancallation policy in your contract.. that would have been a "professional" thing to do. Thumbs down to Evolve for cancelling after confirming numerous times, but as it was stated above, you're (Kristoff) not the only entertainment being slashed. But hey, shit happens and not everything goes as planned.
I don't really know what you're expecting of Evolve.. grovel at your feet and beg for your forgiveness? Perhaps a phone call would have been slightly more personal and meaningful, however, if the interactions between Attila and your agent has only been through emails, then it's just their regular way of interacting. Anyways, you could have kept this professional and delt with it on a personal/buisiness basis. You had a bad experience with a promotor, big deal. These types of things happen so deal with it. After reading this rant on a public message board (and supposedly posting on numerous others), you're the one that seems unprofessional and childish. I'm not too familiar with whose a bigger DJ than whom, but it seems as though others are smelling some BS with your alleged cancellations. Oh, and did you know you 'accidently' posted this on a message board rather than pasting it onto the replies of your emails? :310: Last edited by bungoshlung; Aug 18, 05 at 05:43 PM. |

It's not like you see Stereo 8 whining because their gig at Inferno didnt pan out. I'm sure they were disappointed, but acted as professoinals. It would be hilarious if people did this in other professions... Some kid works at Superstore, and after they drop one of his shifts, he runs to the store and announces to everyone how unprofessional they are through a megaphone. In the end who am I to judge.. I dont know the whole situation, just like most of the people on this board. Only Kristoff, his Agent, and whoever they were talking to at Evolve do, which is why this discussion doesnt belong here.
