MIKE RELM @ Richards
At first i was worried, with the lack of dance space and the boring opening set that almost put me to sleep (i don't think i moved a foot)...but then the adorable little man (who reminds of a pocket size version of stringbeans) took the stage, and i don't think i stopped smiling or moving from there.
The dvd visiuals complimenting his set were out of control, i've never seen anything like it. Fight Club and Pulp Fiction were my favorite. I've never seem Relm before, and he honestly AMAZED ME, i think he is an insane talent. He works so hard it's so fun to watch. KILLED IT. Can't wait to see him again! SO MANY GOOD LOOKING FACES I WANTED TO RUN INTO TOO. I WAS PARTICULARLY IMPRESSED WITH THE STEEZ AND I'M NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT RELM. Shawn: I want your t-shirt, Karen: I want your hat, Ashlee: I want your purse, Michelle: i want your earings. Nev: I want you! And Mat and Brad, even if i don't want anything material of yours...i still had a really good times with you guys. :p Thanks everyone for a wicked night! (ESP. Nev, Ashlee, Matt and Nay for being the best people to go out with, and getting me home safelty realy appreicate it! :) Big uuuuups to Relm! Last edited by Tea; Feb 27, 06 at 01:23 PM. |

Yeah it was 1:30... Mike Relm was fucking siiiiick! 3rd time ive seen him and as always, it was very impressive. So creative with the mixes and choice of videos and stuff. So good to see someone doing something a little different that whats seen everyday.
Though I do agree about the opening act... The act up first was really good (scratch bastid), but the guys up after?? No Luck Club or something? I dont know what the deal was with that, there beats were really boring and damn near put me to sleep. Totally killed the hype that scratch bastid had built up... Overall though, a really good night. Mike Relm is the shit. |

i agree about the open act. scratch bastid = good! no luck club = boring and unimpressive.
3rd time for me seeing mike relm as well and it was fucking awesome as usual. i spent the entire time on the balcony so i could get a good look at him and the visuals because i knew it was going to be crazy. he took everything that rocked out of his old set and brought in just the right ammount of crazy cool new stuff. it was great to see some new material from him. totally talented dude. i can't wait to see what he can come up with next. pee wee herman, peanuts, office space, fight club, kill bill, wu tang, bjork (i think), fuck...relm is the shit. i missed the nightmare before christmas song though...but all in all awesome night. |

yeah skratch bastid was sick as fuck......the star wars juggling and justin timberlake song and a few others were off the hook.....he definately knows how to rock the party....but no luck club put me to sleep...they were good but just didnt excite me.
Mike Relm was pretty much exactly what i expected.....it was all dope......i was just kinda tired at the end of the night to even appreciate it all and dance......but overall this show was sweet |

All in all one hell of a night! Had a great time, hung around with good peeps, got some stupid pictures taken of myself. SUCCESS! |

sounds like a great night... not too bummed about missing it as it sounds like he did all the same stuff as at Shambhala.... but it's good to see a bunch of new heads getting turned on to this guy
sounds like wood & soo should've been on the bill ;) no luck club have been dope every time i've seen 'em though, must've been an off night |

not too bummed that i missed this - sounds like he pulled out his standards - last time i saw him was a whistler and he had all that bjork stuff and other stuff (a lot i've heard on a recent radio set) that was relatively new.
I usually love No Luck Club, sucks that they weren't playing up to snuff or maybe their style was a little too underground for the crowd... Mike Relm is on the list of people i'd *love* open for one day... |

yeah No Luck Club WERE good......they had some cool beats and their scratching was good......but it just wasn't as fun as what people were expecting that night....skratch bastid and mike relm just get the party going.....no luck was just cool i guess......no one wanted to dance to it tho

the bastid impresses every time - cool guy...was in a battle with him once when I lived in halifax and he kicked everyone's ass - absolute talent!
i hate to be a critic...but "no luck club" should change their name to "we suck club"...i apologize if they're having an off night, but I didnt see anything remotely interesting at all or creative about 1 guy playing beats off a laptop looking bored as fuck doing it and 2 guys doing some simple scratching with a few fx. maybe its the fact that the hip hop scene is only now beginning to experiment with technology, but electronica dj's have already pushed forward past these boundaries and I was not impressed in the slightest. Mike relm was nuts as per usual :) can't wait to see him out again! |

here are some useless tidbits of relm info:
- the first time we brought him here, he didnt even dj! he was an itf champ, and was rolling as q-bert's assistant! - mike came up with the name for q-berts mixer ...the qfo - last saturday was his NINTH vancouver show since march 2005 (!) - last saturday was the BIGGEST headline show mike's ever done in his life - mike says he'll never forget last saturday, because it was such a milestone show thanks to everyone who came out to support! be sure to check out our next turntablist event: |
