My parents were immigrants, poor as fuck, couldnt speak english, lived in squalor and literally sold themselves to provide something for me, and my bro and sis. My dad became a civil structural engineer and my mom became of microbiologist, and now a succesful part time instructor in the Hindi Dialect and Indian/Polynesian cuisine. BUT WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANOTHER IMMIGRANT? My parents arent better, or harder workers than anyone else. Their accomplishments, trials and struggle have no bearing on any other immigrant! Neither does YOUR parents accomplishments and struggle. Understanding what your own parents went through, and being a visible ethnicity, where the fuck do you get off judging another immigrant because of their apparent lack of ability to speak english? Your post wasnt one of advice, it was one of hollow critisism, and one that doesnt help immigrants, rather it alienates them and contributes to a mindset that puts more importance on assimilation lest they face riducule and god forbid GETTN PAID! One last thing, before you make another bullshit defensive retort. Countless contemporary studies show that a large percentage of the immigrant labour pool currently in Canada have a considerable amount of education and experience but through racist and subversive immigrant enticement and policies many new immigrants face the reality that despite being doctors, professors, scientists, teachers or even scholars, their employment future usually results in a mop or a security jacket. This reality has very little do with the language barrier and much more to do with systemic racism. Wake up carlos.seriously |

Dude you look into shit a little too deeply. I wasn't in any way offering advice to ANYONE. I was just simply saying "THAT'S LIFE!" Don't waste your time disecting something that wasn't intended in the way you perceived it. Last edited by C_squared; Jan 04, 07 at 01:27 AM. |

You were talking about immigrants, human beings, not a played out sample, or weak breakbeat, therefore the discussion becomes infinetly more sensitive, important and REAL. There is no such thing as "thats life," thats a shitty demoralized remark and one that has no real tangible meaning. There is a reason behind the reality that many immigrants end up working really shitty jobs, and it has more to do with systemic problems, than purely a language barrier. Talking to anyone about such issues, whether politely or in full out confrontation, is NEVER a waste of time, despite apathy, despite cynisism, and despite disinterest. These are the conversations that need to be had! Fuck "Thats Life" |
