Apartment Hunting

Not keen on leaving a trail of pissed landlords in my wake...

^Kind of irresponsible/unethical IMO. Plus if you look at the Tenancy Act or whatever, it's a law that you have to give a month's notice on the last day of the rent cycle. It's not always easy but I really prefer live my life responsibly.

On the apartment-hunting front, though...

The manager from that awesome building I missed out on called and told me he has a corner suite on a higher floor available on May 1. If my landlord doesn't let me cancel my notice, he said I can move into a bachelor for April and they'll store my stuff that doesn't fit, then up into the 1 bedroom for May. YIPPEE!

Going to look at that one and one more tonight but I'll probably take that one.

Now my roommate's dragging her feet on where and how much she wants to spend...

I have another friend looking out to move. But two guys trying to find a place, with one who has no previous renting experience is huge disadvantage in the rental game I'm not looking forward to trying to overcome.

What about the landlords who ask for first months rent and last months rent, plus a deposit of half a months rent, plus 200 dollars deposit for FOB keys..

Um, you report landlords like that to the govt.

Landlords aren't allowed to ask for more than half a month's rent deposit.

Cerah and I went thru this last month... twas fucking hell!
The place was decent.. not the location so much.. but convenient. And nothing was getting fixed.

Gave our noticed.....

The hunt was horrible... everything we viewed, we were up against atleast 20 other groups. Or we'd find a place... the second bedroom... HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU TO FIT A BED IN THERE! a sleeping bag wouldn't even fit! 2bdrom for couples only? Do they sleep in separate rooms? how about Only has washer, no dryer? Students only? hows that fair! I viewed one place... i swear the bedrm was a closet.. hence a closet door for a door.... another place had a bdrm in two parts.. odd but kinda cool.

We finally got a place last minute.. and its one of the better places we viewed. Quite happy with it actually.

Our place may not be flashy or super modern, but it's clean, isn't run down or requiring repairs, and our location in the building is ideal. Plus, our rent is a steal (and no, sorry, it won't be if you move in. The boy has lived here for ages).

I love my current place, and if the walls weren't slowly trying to kill me I would be happy to stay.

Doom guess there are implicit advantages in effectively being given a house as a wedding present.

That being said, doom talked to some of his coworkers this week and your building, if the mold growth is that widespread, should probably be condemned. Interesting fact, if you ripped out all the dry wall in your apartment you just might find mushrooms growing in the walls.
