been with the company for a year, was hoping to stretch it out until january maximum BUT people felt the need to be assholes and Im sitting here at my desk feeling extremely depressed. I still cant get over the fact that she had the audacity to guilt me for being a parent. Im having a very hard time trying to process this.Yeah I have a lot of experience BUT i dont want to work for a corporation whose bottom line is the bottom line...and working for not for profits or other social agencies/outlets generally pay crappy so Im between a rock and a hard spot. |

When people let me down at work, the excuse doesn't change the fact that they let me down. We all have appointments and people that are important to us outside of the work environment, but I don't assume anyone wants to hear about them. Book your vacation and take emergency days off if it's important, or quit. If your work is denying you legitimate sick leave, complain to BC Labour, and then quit. Beyond that, who cares what they think?
Trying to blame having unreliable hours on your work is unreasonable, take responsibility for yourself. If you're upfront and honest about your potential schedule with your employer then no one is surprised and the situation goes away. Playing the parent card is just being manipulative, which unfortunately is quite effective. |

^?huh?
???I am given sick days...which have all been sucked up for the year long ago which I have taken hits in the pocket for any day that ive missed which extend outside of the alloted number of sick days per annum. Whatever work I have missed I have more then made up for. I have never fallen behind enough for her to be worried. I am more then capable and have proven that on numerous occasions. Im not asking for special privledges...but when I work my fucking ass off 5 days a week sometimes 6 and you're well aware of my capabilities and you appreciate them, DAMN RIGHTS IM GOING TO EXPECT SOME LEEWAY WHEN MY KID IS BARFING!!!! Daycares do not take sick children, my family works, her dad works, my friends ...ALSO WORK!So single parent or not, I am still a parent. Like other parents I am going to face these challenges when I have a child that is too sick to go to daycare. She also knew upon hiring me that i was a parent, and knew what to expect...so yeah. |

Let's all just take a minute to remember when we were kids and our moms had to book off work to take care of us when we were sick.
When I was 9, both my brother and I had chicken pox and my mom had to take 12 days off work - no one said boo. I totally sympathize. While there is work that needs to be done, your boss also has to understand that you have a child. I think she was just being an unreasonable bitch when she denied your request to work from home on such occassions. If the bottom line is that your work gets done, then this shouldn't be a problem. I don't have a kid and I've worked from home lots of times when I was too sick to be around the public. |

if my mom can do it without claiming ill child at home, in a time where it was less accepted to, then why cant you now? ps - i had surgery last summer. my mom took a total of 3 hours off that week to pick me up and drive me home from the hospital. and she was still pushing that i take a cab. |
