Once again at the risk of turning a thread semi-serious, I'm just wondering what people would be thinking about 50 Cent had Dr. Dre and Eminem never 'discovered' him. Most likely he'd still be underground today but would people consider him shite, or be praising him?

It may be certain individuals' tendancy to resist hype machines. One cannot argue that 50 Cent's raise to insta-fame was more due to a well-oiled promotional machine than actual talent. His talent on the mic was always there. Dre and Em' took that potential talent, gave it a slick presentation, and the media did the rest. People who recognize this marketing practice don't like to be thought of as suckers falling for it as many in the mainstream tend to.
However, by doing so, they may also be denying themselves some interesting music. If you tear away all of the visuals, all you have is just sound. Why not just enjoy it on that level? Judge mainstream hip hop by its own musical merits, not the image it tries to present itself with. If the music itself is weak, however... (*cough*NoLimitRecords*cough*) |

50 cent has been around for a long time.........he used to rap with "onyx" back in the day.
And he had a few things that were supposed to come out back in '98, but he got shot, and the label ditched him. HE's been on the verge of blowing up for a long time. All of the backpack hip hopers have mix tapes floating around........just hoping dre or puff will get ahold of one and sign them. Jealousy is a beeotch. |

mc's rapping about their surrounding that is. what seaparates the elite from the ordinary....? lets look at mcs. an mc who raps about thier surroundings is usually basically a technical mc with flow that is catchy. its art. whoohoo we all love it dont we? but whats their mission? do they have a deep message they want to preach? or are they simply just artists who rap about whatever their surroundings are? tupac shakur. he was surrounded with riches, bitches, rolexes, all the ice he wanted, he was backed by suge knight who is the scariest motherfucker u dont ever wanna know. but what sustained his music? his word his head his heart dass mah werd bitches |
