To add onto what's been covered, I'm still not certain that jumping right into a post secondary institution is neccesarily the best idea for high school graduates.
Our generation seems to be getting force-fed the inclination that a good education will get us that 6-figure job we hear so much about. Does it help? Sure, but what is the #1 thing employers want in new workers? Experience.
This is why I feel that getting out into the work force, even if it's just a piddling low income job, for a few years before jetting off into a post secondary school is far more impressive on a resume than just a degree. It shows that you've already gotten your hands dirty.
Probably some of the best courses available at schools are those that offer job placement, if even temporary, as a part of said course.
Really, there are many ways of getting that degree in whatever field. The common route tends to be emerging yourself into a university but why not take just a course or two for a semester while gaining working experience at the same time? Or even night school, for that matter. The piece of paper you get that confirms you know your shit is still the same, no matter how you get it (although from who can make a difference, I admit).
