No, I actually understand why you have the avatar, and I wouldn't actually ever want boobs like that, but why do you think it gets you karma? Stuff like that is everywhere and not everyone can be as enlightened as you or I.

there's a difference between picking the styles you like for yourself and becoming a slave to fashion and wearing certain things solely because everyone else is. as with everything, people can take things to extremes.

my point exactly

having a style is one thing... living for style is quite another

why not spend the time & money doing something worthwhile like making music or dancing or volunteering somewhere fun to do something that would help out your fellow human being?

what's the sense in owning 800 pairs of shoes that you're never gonna wear anyways?

what's the sense in owning a 'cute' pair of moccasins that you'll soon realize are incredibly lame?

what's the sense in owning the same goddamn coat as every other girl in the whole fuckin city???

go out, buy the stuff you like, don't walk out of a store looking like everyone else on the street because 'hey it MUST be hot if everyone's doin it!'

then get over yourself and go do something that's actually going to affect your life in a positive way

if how people dress bothers your that much, there has to be something going on with you....Why does it matter so much, as long as you express yourself how you feel is "original" they why does it matter?

speak for yourself eh. have you done a study to prove that boob jobs give women easy and instant power? is there real proof of this? i mean come on. oh and i'm not defending boob jobs here. i think they are pointless (unless it's cheesy porn) and it's not hawt either. amusing? sure, in that cheesy porn, but with that amusement aren't we creating an image that some girls might try to attain. much like the jist of the mainstream fashion style in vancouver that you are complaining about, but boob jobs imply something much worse and permanent than clothes.

ironic that you've entitled the thread vanity. keep on bouncin!

Awww. I missed it! T-shirt and pants. That's so hawt right now.

And I will defend the fur trimmed hood parka's that so many girls wear now. I have one, got it 2 years ago - it's cute on me, so I'm told - and more than anything it's the is my warmest coat I have!!

heh. mad werd.

p.s. if one needs more self-esteem: sleep in the nude! there's been studies on it! it works! people that do sleep in the nude tend to have higher self esteem than those that don't, so i read. but what causes what? either way, if youre not doing it now, try it, it can't hurt.

every girl I've ever talked to who has planned to get a boob job has said that their only reason for doing it is that they want to get some self confidence in their life

your arguments make little to no sense and I don't understand why you attack me and then defend vanity and then go on in the next sentence to say you think the same things that I think are stupid, are stupid

you need to think before you write, it really helps to get your point across more clearly

almost every girl I ever see walking around anywhere in this city is dressed up in the same lame-ass style... short coat with fur-trimmed hood, hip-hugger pants that are skin tight, about 1 in 5 girls with a pair of gay looking moccasins with fur trim and suede patching
the guys aren't any better... they dress exactly like the girls but make the pants baggy and the coat slightly longer and add a bunch of jewelry around the ears, neck and fingers/wrists, plus add a hat that hasn't been broken in properly so that it looks like it's brand new out of the store (which looks absolutely fucking retarded, by the way)
so why is it that people feel it's necessary to live up to this image that society has built up around the 'pop culture'?
why do women want to spend thousands of dollars getting a boob job when they look perfectly fine the way they are?
why do men feel the need to dress up like their girlfriends crossed with their favorite rappers?
is anybody in the entire world happy with who they are and what they look like?
if it's not the fur-trimmed style then it's some other pop culture style that's been played out for the past year, like trucker hats and studded belts and rolled up pant legs and facial piercings
has anybody in this city heard of a concept called 'originality'?
and don't even get me started on the emo population... you people are just plain weird and diluded... you all think you're original, yet you all dress the same and listen to the same music and think the same thoughts about how depressed you are and how tough your life is... get over yourselves
that goes for everybody who is living a dream life
find something you love to do that doesn't involve being vain and trying to be someone you're not, then DO IT
stop wasting your life in the persuit of bullshit ideals that leave you unhappy and wondering 'how come I feel like I haven't done anything with my life??'
what exactly IS original? Since we all belong to the same society and to various subcultures within it, none of us are truly originally at any level.. Such a gripe could extend to "why do people all speak english/chinese/japanese/french"? Why are we all such conformists and why don't we just make our own language? The answer is rooted in the ideal of social belonging. Behaving in certain ways consistent with a certain group is a tool for communicating with that particular group. For that reason many of us act in similar ways that are appropriate according to occasion. Whether it be the way we dress, behave or speak, they all function as a means of communicating with, belonging to, and being accepted by a certain group. In dressing a certain way we communicate the way we would like others to perceive us, who we think we are and what social groups we think we belong to. The language we speak allows us to communicate with those who speak a similar language or dialect. Surely none of us are entirely unique from one another, but don't our similarities, and doesn't CONFORMITY have social and functional purposes?

Sure, it's cool to be "different" in a society where it seems everyone is increasingly becoming the "same", but true deviants are socially outcast and many of us don't desire to be so "unique" to the extent of being cast out of society. Many sane people's attempts to be "different" falls within the category of acceptability and are mostly just cries for attention. Many true deviants don't try, they just are.. and they are socially punished for it.

see there's nothing wrong with having similar style to other people... there's something wrong with being a carbon copy of everybody else out there though

why be a clone when you can be fun and happy without social status symbols like expensive clothing and fur trimmed jackets and moccasins and other lame shit?
