Vanity
so can anybody tell me why so many people feel the need to try to make themselves look like a movie star?
almost every girl I ever see walking around anywhere in this city is dressed up in the same lame-ass style... short coat with fur-trimmed hood, hip-hugger pants that are skin tight, about 1 in 5 girls with a pair of gay looking moccasins with fur trim and suede patching the guys aren't any better... they dress exactly like the girls but make the pants baggy and the coat slightly longer and add a bunch of jewelry around the ears, neck and fingers/wrists, plus add a hat that hasn't been broken in properly so that it looks like it's brand new out of the store (which looks absolutely fucking retarded, by the way) so why is it that people feel it's necessary to live up to this image that society has built up around the 'pop culture'? why do women want to spend thousands of dollars getting a boob job when they look perfectly fine the way they are? why do men feel the need to dress up like their girlfriends crossed with their favorite rappers? is anybody in the entire world happy with who they are and what they look like? if it's not the fur-trimmed style then it's some other pop culture style that's been played out for the past year, like trucker hats and studded belts and rolled up pant legs and facial piercings has anybody in this city heard of a concept called 'originality'? and don't even get me started on the emo population... you people are just plain weird and diluded... you all think you're original, yet you all dress the same and listen to the same music and think the same thoughts about how depressed you are and how tough your life is... get over yourselves that goes for everybody who is living a dream life find something you love to do that doesn't involve being vain and trying to be someone you're not, then DO IT stop wasting your life in the persuit of bullshit ideals that leave you unhappy and wondering 'how come I feel like I haven't done anything with my life??' |

On a seriouse note... It's not hard to noticed Vancouver's fashoin scene only come sfrom major outlet stores (GAP, TNA(arizia) Old Navy, Guess, Off the Wall, Roots etc etc)
When on a tight buget and no time to shop... you cant help but get sucked in it :( I miss shopping in Australia so much as I never saw a GAP!!! About 20% of the stores where major brand outlets as the rest were there own unique outlet stores. It was near imposible to wear the same thing/same brand name. |

Yes Australia's mainstream fashion sense and the professional fashion scene is great. I was pretty impressed and a little envious of them for that (amongst other things). And yes the style that has now made it's way over here, ugg boots, layering, xtra long tees, big folded jean bottoms, messy but not really is getting played out here and happened down there over a year ago. I'm sure they're onto something else completely now....
I was lucky enough to work as a cocktail waitress at Posh Bar (at the Rocks, Circular Quay) which was the VIP lounge during the Mercedes Australian Fashion week back in May. Saw some pretty cool styles. I find that really, they most of their inspiration and style from London - with a spin of course. Anyway, what has become mainstream here can't be avoided, there has always been a mainstream and always will be. It just depends what it is. |

if people were less vain and stupid all the time then maybe they'd do something worthwhile with themselves instead of wasting time and money on shopping sprees to buy 'cute hats' and 'totally awesome shoes' |

defending vanity and fighting for the right to be vain is just plain stupid
don't argue just for the sake of having an argument it's like telling me that there's a good AND bad side to eating fetuses (this statement is meant for those who were arguing with me, not those who were not) |

ps- i dont dress like anyone in that city, if that's how they dress... but i spose i do know what u mean. i hate seeing the same abercrombie-laden, bellevue-looking, rich-thanks-to-daddy, girls walking around downtown with all their urban outfitters shopping bags, wishing they were older than 15. it's like OH MY FUCKING gawd, how is it possible for this many girls to look EXACTLY the same?! |
